Celtics GM Ainge has heart attack
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/basketball/nba/04/16/ainge.celtics.ap/index.html

BOSTON (AP) -- Boston Celtics general manager Danny Ainge was hospitalized Thursday after suffering what the team described as a minor heart attack.

The team issued a brief statement saying that Ainge, 50, was taken to a Boston hospital but provided few other details.

"Danny Ainge is recovering at Massachusetts Geneal Hospital after having a minor heart attack. He is recovering nicely," the team said. "Mr. Ainge is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days."

A spokeswoman for Massachusetts General Hospital referred comment to the team.

The news was first reported by WCVB, a Boston TV station.

"All of Celtics Nation is thankful that Danny got incredible medical care so quickly and so effectively," Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck said. "We wish him, Michelle and the kids all the best and know he will be back with us very soon."

2. Twenty years ago, I would have called this the second best news possible
(I would have sacrificed a fatted calf in thanks for a McHale heart attack.) Now, I just hope the dude pulls through OK...

3. "What's that? KG is out for the entire playoffs?"
(Okay. That's enough of that.)

In all seriousness, I hated that guy with a passion in the 80's. But he kinda grew on me as an announcer. Specifically when he said, "Glory be! The funk's on me!" and destroyed his then booth partner John Thompson. Thompson was laughing so hard, I don't think he said another coherent word for the rest of the game.

Anyway, I hope Mr Ainge pulls through.

4. Man Was I Shocked When I Heard That
Pro class athlete in two sports! Only 50! Rich and access to the best medical care!

I would have thought those 3 elements would have pushed the odds of Ainge having a heart attack to practically zero.

Pretty sobering.

5. more proof that genetics seem to play a huge factor
in stuff like this..In fact the whole I'm an athelete and therefore healthy might actually be detrimental because those types are probably not going to think they could actually have a heart attack OR have their health monitored as closely as someone with known health issues.

7. Certainly Possible
But, from what i remember hearing, Ainge was a health nut, too. So, i would guess he would have had his health monitored.

My guess is that your first thought about genetics is the real factor. At that point, there's little any of us can really do.

6. I hope he does well...
...50 is young, but my grandfather died at 38 of a heart attack, so some people are genetically screwed.
