RALEIGH -- Even if Aaron Ward's wife had not been narrating the play-by-play of the Carolina Hurricanes' victory Tuesday night over the phone, he still would have learned immediately that he will face the Canes in the second round of the playoffs.

The moment Carolina's improbable 4-3 comeback win over the New Jersey Devils was complete, just about every friend he had in the Triangle made sure to let him know.

"Are you kidding?" the Boston Bruins defenseman said Wednesday. "My phone lit up last night with texts. Some needed help with tickets. Some wondered how excited I am to be playing my old team. Some were doing a little taunting."

"I thought I'd wake up this morning dreading it, but I'm excited about playing them," Ward said. "Battle lines have been drawn. They're my buddies in summer training at the RecZone, but it's all business now."

Ward has been a real solid player for Boston. Knowing the playoffs, he'll probably get into a fight with an old teammate. :)

Anyway, he is solid and the B's have a good one. We miss him though we can go see him skate some at the RecZone in the off season.
