Pro Choice Alert: the South Dakota Bandwagon

If you support a woman's right to choose, your presence is urgently needed at the Capitol in downtown Nashville this Thursday (3/9/06). Your phone calls are also needed.

This Thursday, these senators (pictured here) will vote for the state's right to control women. They will vote to turn the clock back on women's rights by voting for the passage of SJR 127 -- a measure which would rob the state constitution of the guarantee to a right to privacy -- a right that includes a woman's right to make her own private decision about when or if she will become a mother.

SJR 127 would add this text to the TN Constitution:

Nothing in this Constitution secures or protects a right to abortion or requires the funding of an abortion.

It is vital that you call your senator before Thursday's vote. While it is true that this ultra rightwing body of self-serving senators will certainly pass SJR 127 (the real battle will be in the House), it is also true that if we can prevent them from getting more than 22 votes, we will make it harder for them to move this abhorrent measure forward.

There will be a Pro Choice press conference at 11:00 am, your presence there is also needed. The conference will be held in either the Capitol or the Legislative Plaza building (check back here for details). The press conference will be held by representatives from Planned Parenthood, ALCU-TN, TN-NOW, Nashville-NOW, the Nashville Women's Political Caucus and the Democratic Women's PAC (email me if I've omitted your group).

1. I know this isn't right of me.

When choice becomes illegal, antis are gonna see their love ones getting butchered. You know what? I don't feel sorry for them for the most part. I feel sorry for the victim, but not them. They put us all in this situation. Maybe it will wake them up.

Hey, we know women are gonna die with these bills. If it comes down to my daughter or theirs, I'd rather it be theirs.
