Are there still any private segregation academies in existence?
And by that term "segregation academies" I mean it in the strictest sense of the word: not schools that used to be segregation academies but have now nominally integrated, I mean private schools that are all white, have never enrolled a black student, and implicitly discourage minorities from applying at all.

As I recall such schools are allowed by law, but only if they register as corporations and pay taxes, and obviously accept no taxpayer funds.

4. All over the South, lots of them.
Founded in 1969, Monroe Academy is a private day school with more than 400
students enrolled in K3 through twelfth grade.

Students are allowed to begin each day with prayer and devotion.

100% white.

8. Where did you get the 100% white?
Just curious there was nothing on the website that indicated that. Its certainly conservative enough, and the band is lousy

7. Not relevant in the case of Kam schools
Purportedly it is the only private school with tax exempt standing which requires traceable ancestry to a particular racial subgroup to qualify for admittance.

I am not against Kam, especially not after the Broken Trust series ran in the Star Bulletin and exposed some fairly nasty stuff and resulted in much more transparency.

9. how would that not be relevant?
Admittedly, I don't know much about this particular school, but - from what I gathered, it's limited to Hawaiians. Hawaiians are a subculture (yes, even in Hawaii) - the "limitation" is meant to redress the abundant wrongs they suffered under the hands of the "white supremacists", no?

Again - I'm not arguing with you, I'm trying to understand and seek clarification.

11. It goes back to royal lands bequeathed to a trust and how it is run
Edited on Sat May-08-10 09:15 AM by ProgressiveProfessor
The massive amount of $$$ involved and how it is run. Very messy when the local paper wrote an expose on it. There is also controversy about how students are selected above and beyond blood quantum. Also a lot of fighting over what the original documents really mean.

Regardless, it is a tax exempt school that requires a certain racial makeup to go there.

10. Of course they are legal
As long as private schools don't get any public money they can admit or refuse to admit any students they want.
