TEACHERS: Check-in please.
Edited on Thu Dec-23-10 06:12 PM by Smarmie Doofus
A sort of census, if you will.

Who's here besides me?

Smarmie Doofus from NYC.

1. Hard to say 'yes' or 'no'. I'm actually not so much a teacher...
...as a pension-chasing, overcompensated, unaccountable civil service drone.

13. No way. Get out and STAY out.
Just kidding.

I'd be lost w/o entomology. ( That's the one about bugs, right... not word origins?)

Getting back in touch more than I did before with teachers still in the system. They are shocked at what is happening under Arne.

10. Not a teacher. Just an ex-student, profoundly grateful to teachers...
...and broken-hearted over the shit that's being poured on y'all.

Just want you to know that I care. I know what you do, every day, for kids and families, and the sacrifices you make to do it.

And I appreciate it.

Please have lovely, warm, serene holidays with people you love, before you head back to the trenches and the shitstorm.

gratefully,
Bright

14. my wife just retired
She had National Certification in science teaching, but was never allowed to teach science. The last couple of years the administration tried very hard to fire her, essentially because she refused to cheat on student tests to raise school scores. They kept coming up with a series of excuses to file things against her. She's glad to be away from that nonsense.

And my BP meds are low.

27. Thanks for the welcome - I appreciate it
I've lurked since the 2004 election. It was great to find like-minded people since I'm stuck in the middle of red territory. I'm still finding my way around posting here. When I saw the thread to check in I wanted to be included and quickly registered. I read the Ed forum every day and forward lots of links to my friends still in the trenches. I cannot believe what has happened with testing and ed "reform."

35. I was a teacher for 17 1/2 years, but I will never walk into a
classroom again as a teacher!

Do I have a bad attitude? You bet I do, but it isn't because of the students I taught.

I loved my students (with a few exceptions but I imagine any truthful teacher will admit to that) and I found most of the parents with whom I worked over the years to be very supportive.

That's all I'm prepared to write at present.

It's so very sad, too, for I was a good teacher for many years.
