SOS Conference Day One
It's just been great so far! Last night we went to dinner with some of the other participants. Most admit this is the first time they have been to DC and/or an event like this.

This morning the keynote was by Jonathan Kozol who was just terrific. And a personal hero. :)

Kozol said the savage inequalities of funding are worse today than when he wrote his book 20 years ago. And racial segregation is increasing. He reminded us that Dr King did NOT say one day we will have more efficient test driven curriculum and self-help chants for testing.

The first conference session I went to today was led by John Kuhn, a supt from Texas. He gave a speech this spring at a rally in Texas and it was put up on YouTube and went viral. So the organizers invited him to participate in the SOS conference. He was wonderful - if all supts were like him we wouldn't have much to complain about.

Sitting in a workshop now led by Chicago teachers union. - How to organize in your community.

More tomorrow.

4. Thanks so much.
You're giving some hope to the cause just by being there and spreading the word.
