SOS March
It was absolutely wonderful but incredibly hot. I took lots of pictures but need to wait till I get home to download and post them.

Highlights were Matt Damon's speech, Diane Ravitch, Jonathan Kozol. Best speaker was John Kuhn, TX superintendent.

Personal best moment was meeting our own Smarmie in person. Yes, he's just as sweet and charming in person as he comes across online. :)

Siting in a meeting now with union leaders from all across the country. Lots of bloggers too. Talking about what to do about 2012 elections. What a powerful group. This is the umpteenth time in the last 4 days I have been in awe of the people I am surrounded by in this SOS movement.

1. It has been incredibly hot here for the past two weeks.
and having baked my brains out on the Capitol Mall one too many times, I wimped out and didn't go. I love the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, but won't go to it, either. It was a little earlier in July.

I did freeze my ass off for the Obama inauguration, a painfully cold day.

Hottest July ever in DC.

I support the cause, though, millions of other teachers do, too, and I think the tide of public opinion is shifting against the corporate "reformers" now that the public is learning more about it. We need to keep up the PR war. It was also bad timing in that all attention in DC is focused on Congress and the debt limits. Still, the teachers made the A3 page of the Washington Post.

Here is the story:

Great meeting you at long last.

I'm having trouble w. all my pics from the march, including the ones DJ took of you and me together. A friend is working on them overnite... I think the memory card might have been defective.... and if she can salvage them I'll post some here.

I'd like to do something for Mr. Teachbad also; met him at the rally and found out that DC had fired him ; probably because of his OUTRAGEOUS blog. Maybe a Teachbad Appreciation thread. He knows he has admirers on DU, but it might be good for him to see that made manifest. I think we should all try to support each other as much as possible. God knows we get enough grief from the other side.

I can't remember being coming away from a political rally... and I've been to a billion and a half.... with a more heightened sense of purpose.
