You wonder why there is a financial crisis in the public
schools plus test score are down? 200 different languages in some districts. Teachers are wonder for educating students under such conditions. Yet Bush complains and wants voucher...and private schools...leaving the public students behind.

Why not have the employers pay (government and corporations) for the cheap labor and their children's education. They profit while the rest of us pay out the nose.

President Bush you can't give a good speech and yet you were privately educated by some of the best schools in America. Must be a rich kids affirmative action that got you into Yale (oh ya Dad's on the board).

2. Private schools don't even accept students with the problems

that the public schools have to deal with. Vouchers are the stupidest things I have every heard of.

Should vouchers be introduced, they should be valid only for schools that accept all and any who apply. Public schools have to accept all and any. Why should public money be used to support schools that serve only those that the schools select. It is public money, and should be used so that each person has an equal opportunity to benefit from the education it funds.

3. I talked with a woman about her son who she thought had

reading problems. She took him out of the religious school and placed him in the public one. She likes it much better since he got the help he needed and is now progressing as a normal student.

Be warned the religious and private schools do not have the funds or desire to hire learning problem professionals. How many children are left behind because of this failure? Nor do they test them the same as the public schools. So how can anyone compare them?

In Cleveland they gave vouchers for Catholic schools (one religious group only). They started charter schools. After a time they compared them. There was little difference because the inner city problems of poverty, etc. impacted both groups. Fact is it was a lot more expense in the end since there was fraud.

School vouchers are a way to fund private and religious schools. They are out to destroy public ones (thus the elite do not rule). Public schools are all about democracy. Bush is out to destroy it.

As a citizen in our country you have to learn to deal with all of society not a little world of "same as you children". I do think that slower students should be helped and not in the class room with others until they are up to speed. It's nice to think a student is "main streamed" but that is done at a cost to the other students.

Example: I attended a very good public school with no more than 700 from 1-12 grades. We had only 25 students in our class (smallest ever). There were no special education school in my town so the parents of an Epileptic student were forced to send him to regular school. He held the class back and even disturbed it with his seizers. We felt compassion for him but sometimes I wanted to crawl the wall waiting for the teacher to explain over and over something to him. His problems and seizors increased and they had to remove him from school. Guess they didn't have drugs at that time to help him.

Special education classes and even special disabled schools are necessary. We've learned that through the years. Should we double back and be in the 17th century? Bush pushes the clock back to the Dark Ages where only the royals have a good education and access to it.

4. And why should I support with my tax dollars religious
groups who I feel want to over throw my democracy for a theocracy? Some even corrupted and bad for children teaching them "religious insanity"?

6. True. Discipline problems, ESOL and Spec Ed
are not dealt with in private schools much. the bottom line is they don't have to accept them.

7. WTF?
Why don't you focus on the real issue here. Public schools are overworked because wage rates have prevented many American families from being single earner families leaving no one at home to RAISE children. This is not, should not, and never has been the job of school districts. Have someone at home RAISING children and the public schools will perform better. In addition, crime and drug abuse will also decrease.
