What were some of the most stupid responses you got to the Warren incident?
Do NOT post a link to the person's post and be honest and don't cut and paste as to make it sound s/he said something s/he didn't say.

Here are two of the most idiotic ones I got:

Have you stopped to think? No, seriously? Have you paused in the midst of the torch-wielding mob and wondered to yourself, "Could the people who are trying to explain to us what Obama is doing actually know what they're talking about?"

I mean hey, it's a longshot I guess. But maybe - just maybe - somewhere on a political website that hosts what, tens of thousands of people, someone, or sometwo even, might have more a clue than you do?

...No? Thought never occurred to you? Ah well. Continue with the effigy-burning.

You have the same rights that I have. They are called individual rights.

2. all the variations on: clever move that will de-bigot Warren.
Which would account for about a brazillion posts. They all remind me of the explanations for why congressional capitulation was really a very clever move that would work to our advantage. Oddly, or not, some of the same people made both arguments.

the discrimination disappears, so they don't have it as bad as any other oppressed group.

Edited on Sun Dec-21-08 04:47 PM by racaulk
If you and I are thinking of the same person, that is.

Yeah, some of his stuff was truly outrageous. His arguments seemed to boil down to "you can hide your sexual orientation by 'acting straight,' but I can't hide the color of my skin." But the thing is, he seemed to have no idea how offensive his statements were, no matter how much we tried to tell him otherwise. We could post them here, but too many of them have been deleted by the mods.

I'm just glad he's gone. :)

Edited to correct punctuation.

10. It wasn't just one poster though, and yes, I know about that one...
There were at least 3 others, 4 if you count a post from months ago from a poster that's still around. Whether its a good or bad thing, I have a bad habit of remembering some of the outrageous posts that certain posters have made, some of those posts were deleted, yet I still remember them, almost word for word.

The post this 4th poster made about what I said above was never deleted, her posts comparing homosexuality to alcoholism were deleted, but I still remember them.

But that latest guy just stuck out in my mind. His comment that he has "little empathy for gay white people" made him memorable, unfortunately.

There are a few others that I still have my eye on that, amazingly, are still here.

4. How about this gem?
Come on, how about some honesty on DU...you were PRAYING for Obama to fail

You supported Hillary.

You DESPISED Obama.

You blamed African Americans for the Prop 8 result.

You never wondered if your own vile bigotry contributed to the Prop 8 result.

You think you are 'progressives'.

Truth is, you're as bigoted as Warren.

You DESPERATELY wanted Obama to fail.

You prayed he would.

You were waiting for ANY opportunity to disown him.

You chose one, a whole month before his inauguration.

You were thrilled!

Now you could piss on him before he even got started.

Admit it, you hate him.

You loathe him.

You always have.

Why?

Because he's not Hillary.

And because he's AFRICAN AMERICAN.

And THAT is what this is all about.

Remember, you blame African Americans for the Prop 8 result.

Let's cut the crap.

The bigoted militants who have turned on Obama have done it for one reason only:

BECAUSE HE IS AFRICAN AMERICAN.

AND THAT IS THE ABSOLUTE REASON FOR THE OBAMA HATE-FEST ON DU THE LAST TWO DAYS.

RACIST SCUM - THE LOT OF YOU.

8. Yeah, that was pretty much the assertion.
Not just GLBT DUers, but all DUers that are opposed to Warren delivering the invocation. You see, the opposition has NOTHING to do with Warren and his views on gays and women. The opposition all boils down to Obama's skin color. Nothing more, nothing less.

The user was tombstoned shortly after making this remark. A few minutes later, they were reinstated. She posted another OP later declaring that she's now on a self-imposed exile from DU, but she's still technically an active member after posting this sweeping condemnation against a large group of DUers.

This all came down Friday night, and I'm still pissed about it. I don't take being called "racist scum" lightly.

24. Three lulu's:

Kick if you've tired of Warren threads spamming DU.
.......

Gay is a secondary, possibly amorphous attribute. Race is primary and immutable.
........

But I do believe there is a distinction between violent homophobes (who somehow feel "threatened" by gays), and those who are tolerant, but not 100% accepting.

The latter group becomes restless when one of their own (Obama) unfairly becomes the subject of misplaced GLBT outrage.

....

And the last one....I am so SICk of hearing about "tolerance" in regards to GLBT people. Sometimes, IMHO, they are WORSE than "faggot" screaming bigots because the former don't realize they are bigots.

32. The funny thing in all of this, is that his most adamant supporters
Edited on Sun Dec-21-08 05:51 PM by bluedawg12
refuse to admit that PE Obama could actually change, evolve in his views on same sex marriage and admit he was wrong about Warren, or some how get out of it gracefully.

But mostly about gay rights, I don't expect he could change the Warren performance now.

However, Obama could evolve his views from 2004 and 2007 about same sex marriage, especially because the national sentiment towards these issues is changing, as people become more familiar with these ideas due to gay protest and activism!

They give the man little credit, or try to bring him down to their lowest common denominator.

Edit: Spell check

60. Awww, poor widdle bibbiez.
The victimization card is getting really old. It'd be one thing if he'd actually turned his back on his constituencies concerns, rather than a simple gesture of reconciliation. Good gawd.

This was a fun one, written in response to the following exchange:

HIM: Hez already answered that question many times:
Why, Mr. Obama, not even on your first day as the president of the United States, are you pandering to the other side, after having 8 years of their disastrous policies destroy the country?
Hez made in abundently clear that he intends to be the President of all Americans, not just Democrats. That means hez gunna leave a place at the table for the other side whether they deserve it or not, unlike the repukes have been doing all these years.

ME: And yet the women, Jews and LGBT folks who actually paid for their ticket to the celebration in time, money and labor, are now told that their participation will be limited to cooking, doing the dishes, doing the flowers and table settings, and providing the entertainment.

HIM: As above.

61. Someone Just Posted Exodus International Crap
They just had this copied and pasted. I hope they forgot a sarcasm tag but really.. wtf?

Seven Things I Wish
Pro-Gay People Would Admit
by Bob Davies
1. I wish they would admit that many people are not happy with their homosexuality or lesbianism, and that this conflict is internal, based on legitimate, intelligent religious and moral convictions--not just the result of a so-called "homophobic" society which is forcing guilt upon people who don't conform to a heterosexual ethic.
Stop throwing out the cheap, inaccurate labels like "internalized homophobia" to explain our motivations.
2. I wish they would acknowledge that homosexuals and lesbians can experience significant change in their sexual feelings and desires, even though they may never be totally heterosexual in their sexual thoughts and feelings.
Be honest enough to admit that such change is significant and genuine, even if it isn't complete.
3. I wish they would acknowledge that many former homosexuals and lesbians have found a greater measure of peace and satisfaction after leaving a gay or lesbian lifestyle than they ever experienced while embracing homosexuality.
Not all "ex-gays" are miserable, plotting how to secretly fulfill their homosexual lusts without being caught.
4. I wish they would acknowledge that many former homosexuals and lesbians have genuine joy in their marriages.
Most former gays and lesbians don't get married in a futile attempt to "escape" homosexuality; they marry as a natural consequence of resolving that issue in their lives.
5. I wish they would acknowledge that all people have as much right to pursue a heterosexual lifestyle as they do to pursue homosexuality.
Former homosexuals and lesbians should not be harassed and castigated by the gay community. But I have never heard any gay or lesbian leaders speak out against the violence (such as bomb threats and physical/verbal abuse) which some people perpetuate against Exodus ministries.
6. I wish they would stop equating our decision to leave homosexuality with "hatred" and "bigotry" against gays and lesbians.
We don't hate gays; we simply desire to live free of homosexuality. Don't put nasty labels upon our motives. That's being judgmental and unfair.
7. I wish pro-gay religious leaders would admit that their endorsement and promotion of monogamous homosexual relationships is a facade.
Many--probably most--men and women involved in long-term partnerships are not sexually monogamous, but gay churches don't discipline members for committing "adultery" outside their "gay marriage." Neither do they discipline gays or lesbians who have sex before entering into a "holy union" with their partner.
Bob Davies is past President of Exodus International and an ex-gay himself. He has been married for nine years.

63. I have two
One was the guy who wanted to know if we thought the sun rose and set in our bedrooms....like all we ever do is fuck.

Another said he'd support gay marriage if it was different from a "real" marriage.

Hard to believe this crap is coming from DU.

69. Along the same vein with your first quote,
Another gem in response to the complaints about Warren:

All this complaining over something private you do that no one is trying to take away.

I don't know about you, but I really wish there were enough hours in the day for me to have all this wild, gay sex that people like this seem to THINK that I have. I'd never leave the house! Or better yet, maybe I'd never be home at all, just hopping from one gay orgy to the next! w00t!

70. It's not an insult that Rick Warren compared gays to pizza. The man REALLY likes pizza.
Edited on Mon Dec-22-08 10:13 AM by IanDB1
I mean... look at him. Do you think Rick Warren ever met a pizza he didn't like?

Okay, I made that one up.

71. Here's a new one - Rick Warren is secretly gay!!!1!11!
I don't know if he'll ever come right out and admit it, but I'm 90% sure he is.

Almost every time a prominent person stakes out a position so vociferously against gays, it's suspicious to me.

Someone else being gay has no effect on a straight person's life. A gay couple getting married has zero effect on a straight person's marriage.

There is no logical reason why a straight person should be so viciously against gay marriage or gay anything.

I believe the most vocal critics of gay marriage fall into the "thou doth protest too much" category.

They're trying to convince everyone else how non-gay they are - their religious beliefs contradict who they really are - and the only way they can reconcile the dissonance is to go overboard in the other direction and become publicly very anti-gay.

Larry Craig

Ted Haggard

Many others

I think someday... I don't know when... we'll be adding Rick Warren to that list.

72. If a person is a jerk, then they must be gay. They're one and the same, right?
Thanks to the mod who locked that thread.

There are quite a number of other nasty threads that could be locked.

73. Without calling anyone out here
what I've noticed is that some DUers have a remarkable capacity to cut straight to the heart of the Warren issue - which is how badly their feelings were bruised by the gays who said mean things about people who don't support equal rights.
