Evangelical clergy here keep referring to Illinois's civil unions
bill as a "gay marriage" bill. The local Evangelicals are all up in arms about the civil unions bill that got moved out of committee today. I thought the issue was the use of the word "marriage", but apparently not. They get REALLY pissed off when I point out that it isn't a gay marriage bill.

I seriously don't understand how these people think. Interesting news, though, that the bill got sent out of committee.

1. They lie when they claim they only oppose marriage
They oppose any forms of rights for us and want to turn the clock back centuries. Some of them would gladly re-institute the death penalty for us if given half a chance. They're hateful and cruel.

2. That seems to be about right.
I would so like to be able to sign a marriage license after marrying two men or two women. But, for some, that's too much to ask, I guess. It's so tiring.

(Chicago, Illinois) The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints says that an Illinois bishop was acting alone in sending an e-mail to members of his ward urging them to oppose a civil union bill before the state legislators.

Send / ShareAdd CommentBut the Utah-based denomination has not ruled out becoming involved in the issue in the future.

The e-mail, sent to at least one LDS ward in Illinois, was authorized by Bishop Chris Church of the Nauvoo, Illinois, 3rd Ward, and was sent out by that website’s ward administrator.

It urges members of the church to call their local legislators and tell them to oppose the bill. The e-mail claims that civil unions would “empower the public schools to begin teaching this lifestyle to our young children regardless of parental requests otherwise.” It goes on to also claim that “it will also create grounds for rewriting all social mores.”

The e-mail raised the concerns of national LGBT civil rights groups. The Mormon Church was instrumental in the passage of anti-gay measures in a number of states ....read more<<<

4. Oh, man...I didn't know about this, but it's not surprising.
Maybe the Mormons will bankrupt themselves with all these anti-rights campaigns. One can hope.

5. I'm afraid they are very wealthy.
There has been a lot of speculation about their wealth, but, I suspect that these little life ruining campaigns of theirs is but a pittance to them as an organization. :eyes:
