New Policy: HRC will only support an inclusive ENDA
Edited on Wed Mar-25-09 05:19 PM by FreeState
Good to see them pull their heads out of their asses. Our Transgendered brothers and sisters deserve everything we have and everything we fight for!

HRC Board ENDA Policy

It's the policy of HRC that the organization will only support an inclusive ENDA. In 2007 House leadership informed us that there were insufficient votes to pass an inclusive bill, so they decided to vote on a sexual orientation only bill. We made a one time exception to our policy in 2007 because we strongly believed that supporting this vote would do more to advance inclusive legislation. We will not support such a strategy again. We look forward to Congress sending President Obama a fully inclusive ENDA for his signature.

1. We'll see.....
seems to me that over the years they've found a number of reasons not to be inclusive (which is why I decline to contribute to them).

3. Do you have a suggestion for an alternative organization?
I recently a) learned of their existence and b) became a member, but I admit I took them at face value and do not know much of their history.

4. Depending on where you live - I always suggest local contributions
Your local GLBT Center is most likely in dire need of donations - if your in CA there are a couple other state specific groups that are good (CA Equality or Courage Campaign etc). I know other states have orgs as well.

9. I'm in Texas, and I already do a local contribution
(through United Way, amazingly enough!)

There's no good national organization, then?

10. Well every org has its issues...
I would not say HRC is a bad organization - I dont like the way they do some things, however I do support them with donations. I also try and support other national groups like:

Here is a link to a very long list of National Orgs - most of which are great:

(as with any group you will find pros and cons depending on who you are talking to)

5. Yeah, well, they are wanting money badly
after the sell out of the Trans community, they found many hostile donors like me. They spit on my friends, and have not had a dime or a kind word from me since.

6. Funny how this was not a policy until donations dried up
Then, all of a sudden, there is retroactively a policy for full inclusivity only. Imagine that. :eyes:

7. I was confused for a minute, wasn't sure if you meant Clinton or the Human Right Campaign.
Either way I was gonna say  :)

8. i am glad there was backlash. sending a non inclusive bill was assinine
we expect other minoriy communities to understand that this is a fight for civil rights, yet we are willing to leave out trans people? that was most disappointing
