Anticipating being heartsick.

I'm a mess. I'll admit it. I've worked on marriage equality in Vermont for over ten years. Ok, lots of years off, but I'm madly invested in it- emotionally, intellectually and even financially.

I think today is going to be close, but no cigar when it comes to overturning that nasty little creep's veto. Now partly, that's just being self-protective. I don't want to have my hopes up only to have them dashed. That's even worse than expecting to lose.

In VT history there have been 145 vetoes and only 6 overrides. That's just the way things work.

It's a miserable grey day here, drizzly with a lowering sky and mist twisting through the trees. I'm off to make phone calls again to each of the ten dems who voted against marriage equality. All I'll do today is beg.

2. We shouldn't be begging

ever. We take our equal rights just like every other red blooded American, and we sure as hell don't need anyone's permission to be American.

The "fight" HAS to be the Rosa Parks battle. We have to ignore the coloreds only section and expect to go to jail.

I just don't see us demanding our rights by exercising them. Those ten democrats - they're like sharks in the ocean. They just are. You don't beg for nothing from sharks.

and no, not all of these dems are like sharks in the ocean. Two of them, in fact, who voted against the legislation, are going to vote to overturn the veto.

Calling these guys is the only activist measure I can think of right now. Sorry if it meets with your disapproval. Oh, and I'm by no means the only straight person invested in equality here in Vermont. As Beth Robinson said yesterday, most of the people out there on the ground in VT, working for equality right now, are straight.
