Dear Amazon: Fuck you, you aren't going to profit off of me.
(Copy of an E-Mail sent moments ago)

My name is Paul L. Sungenis, President and CEO of 2,000 Monkeys With Typewriters, LLC. I am the author of, and 2,000 Monkeys With Typewriters, LLC is publisher of, the following books:

“We Are Not Amusing: A Collection Of The New Adventures of Queen Victoria,” (ISBN 978-0-557-03054-5)
“I Can Has Empire?: The Second Collection of The New Adventures of Queen Victoria,” (ISBN 978-1-4357-0847-1)
“Norton Hears A Who And Other Stories: The Third Collection Of The New Adventures of Queen Victoria.” (ISBN 978-0-557-03043-9)

I consider your decision this week to stop ranking the sales of books with Gay and Lesbian themes, regardless of actual content, by classifying them as “adult” to be insulting. I do not want my products associated with such senseless, bigoted, actions, nor do I wish to have a company that would treat their gay and lesbian customers (let alone content creators) in such a shabby manner incur any profit off of my creative works.

Therefore, you are instructed to immediately de-list and cease to sell the above-captioned books immediately. Until and unless Amazon reverses this insulting policy and issues a full apology, you do not have the right to sell my works.

Formal confirmation will be arriving through US Mail within the next few days. However, this revocation of the right to market will take effect immediately.

Should you need to reach me you may do so at:

Pab Sungenis
2,000 Monkeys With Typewriters, LLC
P.O. Box 543
Somers Point, NJ 08244

Thank you.

Paul L. Sungenis

2. K & R. Also Still ranked:
--Playboy: The Complete Centerfolds by Chronicle Books (pictures of over 600 naked women)
--Rosemary Rogers' Sweet Savage Love" (explicit heterosexual romance);
--Kathleen Woodiwiss' The Wolf and the Dove (explicit heterosexual romance);
--Bertrice Smal's Skye o'Malley which are all explicit heterosexual romances... Read More
--and Alan Moore's Lost Girls (which is a very explicit sexual graphic novel)

_ _ _ _ _

Yet the following books, which have a gay or lesbian focus, have been classed as "adult books" and stripped of their sales ratings:

--Radclyffe Hill's classic novel about lesbians in Victorian times, The Well of Loneliness, and which contains not one sentence of sexual description;
--Mark R Probst's YA novel The Filly about a young man in the wild West discovering that he's gay (gay romance, no sex);
--Charlie Cochrane's Lessons in Love (gay romance with no sex);
--The Dictionary of Homophobia: A Global History of Gay & Lesbian Experience

DON'T LET AMAZON GET AWAY WITH their "it's a technical glitch" excuse again. It's a HATE glitch, not a technical glitch. Bastards.

11. "explicit heterosexual romance". Funny you should mention that....
In the film "This Film is Not Yet Rated" the rating's board members hetersexual prejudice was exposed when any gay inference was found to be a black mark toward a higher rating, but simulated, het-sex was A-OK across the board - as long as HIS pee pee didn't make an appearance.

Guess the Victorians are imposing their will on Amazon - but maybe just discriminating against the OP for writing books about what's 'er face. They are not amused.

3. Even though I'm not an author or a publisher
I have informed Amazon.com that they won't be receiving any orders from me until they reverse this policy, which I deem discriminatory.

5. Glitch?
AP now has this:

NEW YORK (AP) - A "glitch" on Amazon.com has caused the sales rank to be removed from gay- and/or lesbian-themed books by James Baldwin, Gore Vidal and others.
"There was a glitch in our systems and it's being fixed," Amazon's director of corporate communications, Patty Smith, said in an e-mail Sunday.

ahem, methinks they are back-pedaling. nonetheless, "glitch" will be "corrected."

7. where can I find the rankings on the Amazon site?
I buy a lot of ( used) books there, but no more if this crap is going on.

Help me find the link to where I can spot the rankings.
If they continue to do this, I will send them an e-mail too.

thanks....

9. There's a huge list out there.
I don't have a link handy, but a Google Blogsearch should find it. The list is over 300 books long now.

10. Go to Amazon and look up a book that involves gay or lesbian people or issues.
See if the book's ranking appears. If it does not, then you know that the title has been removed from all of Amazon's promotional lists, including bestsellers, etc.

But if others start doing it....

Someone has to be the first.
