Kelly McGillis Says She's Gay on SheWired's 'Girl Rock'

Fifty-one-year young Kelly McGillis is starting her "life in a whole different phase," she told rocker and SheWired vlogger Jennifer Corday -- ostensibly coming out as a lesbian.

Corday, in her Girl Rock video blog, asks the Top Gun and The Accused star, that since she is single, is she looking for a man or woman, or both?

In no uncertain terms McGillis responded that what she is looking for is "definitely a woman." McGillis, a long-rumored lesbian who starred on The L Word as a closeted Army Colonel trying a Don't Ask Don't Tell case added that she is "done with the man thing." She said she is "done with that, and needs to move on in life, and that's another part of being true to yourself." It has been a challenge personally for her, she added.

McGillis said that realizing her sexuality has been an ongoing process for her since she was 12 years old, but through her life faced getting over being convinced that God was punishing her for being gay.

Do all actors playing the male and female leads in movies automatically have affairs? No. The same is true for gay people. Just because I'm attracted to some women doesn't mean that I'm attracted to all of them!

40. Over analyzing it.... they were fairly detailed rumors, not just assumptions...

...based on their presumed orientations. After all, back then NO ONE assumed McGillis was lesbian and Jodie was (even more so than she is now) very much in the closet. The rumor THEN went something like this (from Planet Out):

Certainly one of the most interesting gay celebrity rumors of all time is the alleged lesbian love triangle between Jodie Foster, Kelly McGillis and Whitney Houston. It goes something like this: McGillis and Houston had been "saving all their love" for each other -- until Kelly got involved with Foster during the filming of "The Accused."

All of a sudden, it was a serious case of "Houston, we have a problem." The diva-in-training supposedly visited the set and threatened to kick Foster's ass. Or was it McGillis' ass? Details were always a bit murky on this story, and while none of the ladies have ever commented on the rumor, numerous "witnesses" claim that catfight involving the three actresses did indeed take place. Sounds pretty hot to us.

Well, I heard it wasn't Jodie Foster, it was singer Jodie Watley (remember her?) at the Shakespeare (?) Theatre in DC (Kelly was "Portia", in The Merchant Of Venice (1988)). From my drama friends in Columbia who were on internship that summer said it was Jodie and Whitney who had the knock-down drag out...supposedly, Kelly wasn't even there, she had already left.

My post only said that those were the rumors way back when -- and McGillis' coming out only lends credence to old rumors. So how is that in any way negative. I remember, as a newly out lesbian hearing the rumors for the first time, being excited that two incredibly gifted and beautiful actors were "family".
