New England Goes Gay .... New Hampshire votes for Gay Marriage
Straight guy here but New England going almost all gay friendly seems like a good thing to me.

NH Senate votes to allow gay marriage
By NORMA LOVE | Associated Press Writer
4:14 PM CDT, April 29, 2009
CONCORD, N.H. - The state Senate voted Wednesday to move New Hampshire a step closer to becoming the fifth state to allow gay marriage, but made a distinction between
religious and civil ceremonies, bringing back an idea the House rejected in March.

The bill, which passed the Senate 13-11, goes to the House, which can agree with the Senate, kill the bill or ask to negotiate something different.

Gov. John Lynch would only see a bill if both chambers agree. Lynch has said marriage is a word that should be reserved for the union of a man and a woman, but he has not
specifically said he would veto a gay marriage bill.

"I still believe the fundamental issue is about providing the same rights and protections to same-sex couples as are available to heterosexual couples," Lynch said in a statement
Wednesday. "This was accomplished through the passage of the civil unions law two years ago. To achieve further real progress, the federal government would need to take action
to recognize New Hampshire civil unions."

4. Great headline for a right-wing forum - Imply a state "goes gay" when it acknowledges gay rights.

5. I actually took it as a joke
And, I think my track record on speaking up on homophobia around here speaks for itself.

Rustic New England B. & B.s to have more wall sconces & throw pillows.

Burly Female Mechanics set up shop in New England.

10. I stand by what I wrote. Imagine your outrage if you saw that same headline on Free Republic.
I don't disagree with your view, I'm just saying that your headline was poorly chosen and vulnerable to abuse from our political opponents.

14. please .....
1) I almost never read Free Republic

b) If "going gay" as in being more gay friendly is a bad thing than I am a bad person

iii) Our political opponents are in a world of hurt and they have better things to do than to worry about what I post .....
besides anti gay is a big time drag on the right in the long run. Younger people don't care.

11. Well, NH hasn't "gone gay" yet....there's still a lot of work to be done.
The bill has to be reconciled, and then the governor, who doesn't like the "M" word for same sex couples, has to have his fingers broken until he signs the bill.

12. Very ticked at NJ -- they could have done it several years ago
Then, promised to change the language saying "civil union" to "marriage" after the November 20098 election. Hasn't happened yet.

For shame.
