But I really can't believe how horribly offensive posts are getting tonight, and that seriously offensive and homophobic posts have not been getting deleted at all.

What is the point of Alert if nothing happens?

33. I tried to learn to crochet as a way of excercising my hands
and keeping them busy but my hands can't manage it. I've lost to much use of my left hand already.

It has been suggested that knitting is probably easier. JenaLaw knits, as so do many of our friends, so I'll be borrowing a set of needles and trying to learn. :)

Pleas wish me luck. I would really like to be able to do something crafty again, and being able to do something useful with my hands would be good light exercise so that I don't loose any more function.

You like company, I need to roam about. Win win. I've been a tutor for years, I know difficult students. :)

Also, I was thinking that, with your limited mobility, spinning yarn might be good for you as well. I could bring my wheel. But then, I'd have to drive down (nobody touches my wheel!! esp. on public transportation!)

Mebbe jonny and I could take a trip down. He's a braver driver than I. It would be fun. ;)

6. I Think It's Time to Take a Month or Two Off From DU
When anti-gay shit from Obama happens (and when DOESN'T it happen?), it's so hard to remember that the majority of people here are on our side. Because the Obamabots and homophobes are SO strident and hateful that it's hard to hear anything else. And outside of ourselves and our very few VOCAL straight allies, no one calls them on their bullshit. They're allowed to basically REJOICE whenever we get pissed on.

I need a fucking break. I'll see you all in a few.

27. Yep -
The misogynists attacks on Palin that fill up the latest breaking page are the most amazing. As a feminist I don't say a word on DU because I know I will be buried and removed.

I don't like Palin's politics but the personal attacks that are entirely because of her gender make we wonder "Who are these people that claim to be Democrats?" Sadly I know that DU has a whole bunch of garden variety baby wankers who sexualize women because of their own inadequate emotional development. I wish they would find another place to play.

Its too ugly. All the feminists have exited and gathered together at blogs where they are closely protected by the mods from nasty a-holes.

I have also noticed that recently more and more posters have moved to this LGBT encampment for protection from the abuse out there in the general population. It used to follow us here and scream at us but now they seem to know better as we scream back in a more unified voice.

If anyone here has the right to be angry it is you. Fuck this. I can barely stand it here anymore.

I love all you fucking angry people, one issue voters who simply can't shut the fuck up until the important stuff is dealt with first. Did anyone here ever expect to hear all of that on DU or anyplace that is supposed to be democratic? Be loud. Continue to fight. I know you will but I just had to say it. These people can't win forever. Christ almighty this is enough to give me a brain hemorrhage. How do you stand up under all of this? I am so sorry. Shit.

I never trusted Obama. Could not do it. I hate being right about this because I would have been so happy to apologize and eat my words.

Sending hugs and love to those who are hurting. I wish I could change this. I will not stop trying.

I don't even know what to say, this sounds so stupid but I can't let this go without saying something.

Fuck!

None of us would have been surprised by the bush admin defending DOMA. But with the Obama admin's support (and many in the DU community's defending the move), this latent homophobia can't be hidden any longer. I applaud and am grateful for my fellow du'ers who refuse to avert their gaze and defend the indefensible.

Had the exact same thing come from the bush DoJ, what would have been the reaction?

It would have been roundly condemned here. NO ONE would have defended it or claimed that anyone else was unjustly angry.
