Texas Billboards Spark Fundie Outrage
A group of gay-friendly churches in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area decided to put up some billboards along a busy freeway. The messages on the billboards point to some scriptural references that sponsors say are LGBT affirming. And Lawsy Mercy, you could hear the fundies shrieking all the way to the state capitol. From CBS-11: Christine Lutz was traveling down Interstate-30, just east of Fort Worth, when she came face to face with a billboard containing a pro-gay message. "I cringed and I was disgusted at the same time," she said.

Pastor Sam Dennis of Parkway Hills Baptist Church in Plano, says Christians shouldn't hate gays. He disagrees however with the billboards' use of scripture to back a pro-gay message. "I'm hard pressed to find that scripture advocates that it's alright to live in a gay lifestyle." (Although there are numerous passages in the Bible that advocate owning slaves, raping women, and stoning disobedient children to death.) "Just like I'm hard pressed to find that scripture advocates that's it's alright to live in an adulterous relationship or as a wife abuser or as a murderer." (Got that? Gays are like wife abusers and murderers. But please don't hate them.)

1. Stir it up
I'm loving it. This is just what Texas needs--really brave people who have the guts to point out the "Christian" hypocrites. This rocks.

2. You know they only read the parts of the Bible they agree with
Anything in the Bible that has a different viewpoint has to be Satan's work.:sarcasm:

3. Aw, the poor fundies are upset
And there's probably nothing they can do about it since the billboards are privately-owned. As long as there's nothing obscene, they can probably stay up although I'm sure they'll try some ridiculous legal procedure to bring them down.

I like the "stern" email sent out by the woman who cringed - how dare you twist the scriptures to fit your needs. Indeed. How dare people do that.

5. Freedom of speech?
I guess it only extends to Fundies in Texas. And Bible quoting can only be used for hate, not love, or it is DISGUSTING.

7. I feel that way whenever I see a billboard for a Republican candidate for local office.
I cringe and get disgusted at the same time. I find them offensive to my belief that conservatives are assholes.

9. You know those billboards will be vandalized in no time --
that's what "free speech" means to them.

10. I guarantee
that I can't find any scripture that says eating shell fish is alright, but I'm pretty sure that Pastor Dennis and his flock aren't protesting outside the local Red Lobster daily.
In fact, I have even provided the addresses of two nearby such establishments that need a good old fashioned reminder from the bible about their wicked ways.
Red Lobster - 3501 CENTRAL EXPRESSWAY. PLANO, TX 75023 (972) 881-4353
Red Lobster - 9069 VANTAGE POINT DR.DALLAS TX 75243(972) 889-8124
Are you going to stop by, Pastor?

I am also pretty sure that owning slaves, raping women, and stoning disobedient children to death who land me in the express lane on Texas' Death Row. I don't understand, I thought Texans were good, god fearin' country folk who do what the "good book" says? :sarcasm: They sure love to cherry pick, don't they.
