Is Mexico Next For Marriage Equality?
Is Mexico Next For Marriage Equality?

Today Mexico's Supreme Court ruled 8-2 that the legalization of same-sex marriage in the nation's capital did not violate the Mexican constitution. Mexico City legalized gay marriage in March, but the ruling was challenged with the backing of the Catholic Church. Today's decision not only squashed that challenge, it further stipulated that gay couples were free to adopt. How long before we see the expansion of marriage equality to all of Mexico?

in Canada. At the time of filing his case, he seriously could have been murdered with impunity by homophobes and with the complicity of sympathetic law enforcement officials. Last time I saw him about eight years ago, he claimed that things had gotten much better in Mexico. I'm sure not as much in the villages, though.

3. It really depends on where one is.
Guadalajara has a tremendous gay pride parade every year. It's amazing. It's also odd considering the socially conservative nature of some of the citizens. Mexico City is okay too, and I can imagine most of the big cities are. Other places are extremely old in their ways of thinking.
