Bishop Harry Jackson has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn same sex marriage
With the backing of the anti-gay Alliance Defense Fund, Maryland-based carpetbagger Bishop Harry Jackson has petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court in a last-ditch effort to overturn same-sex marriage in Washington

Today, Bishop Harry Jackson – who pastors a Maryland congregation and has been the leading voice against marriage equality in the District of Columbia – petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to hear a case attempting to put the rights of District citizens up to a vote of the people. Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese issued the following statement: “Today’s petition by Bishop Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court is nothing more than a last-ditch attempt by outside interests to try to eliminate marriage equality in the District. Every court that has reviewed this case, including two Superior Court judges and the full Court of Appeals, has found Jackson’s arguments to be without merit. We are confident that the District’s highest court properly decided that the Council had the right to broadly protect human rights for all District residents by prohibiting discriminatory ballot initiatives. “The Council and Mayor, representing District residents, overwhelmingly approved legislation providing for marriage equality. And we will remain vigilant against any efforts to take it away.”

1. The brief linked to in that blog post is old.
Edited on Wed Oct-13-10 02:24 PM by Unvanguard
It's dated March 1, 2010. It's the motion for a stay that Justice Roberts rejected last March.

If they've made a new filing, that isn't it.

Edit: The blog post has now been corrected.

2. The writ is not new, nor is Bishop Jackson....
however, the news is new. They are going to tilt against this particular windmill.

They're wrong, but that isn't going to stop them or others of their ilk.

3. Seemingly endless supply of self declared 'Bishops'
dripping with prejudice and intolerance and an active form of hatred for their neighbors, meddling, backbiting seekers of personal enrichment. The frightening thing is knowing that for each of these 'Bishops' and 'Reverends' there are thousands of their followers thinking the same bigoted garbage, and teaching it to their children.

10. Interesting background article about the "bishop"
is located here <http://www.pfaw.org/media-center/publications/harry-jackson-point-man-for-the-wedge-strategy>

"In recent years, Religious Right leaders have made a major push to elevate the visibility and voices of politically conservative African American pastors. The star of that effort has been Bishop Harry Jackson."
