DMV Worker Condemns Transgender Woman to Hell
A transgender woman from San Francisco said she received a letter from a Department of Motor Vehicles employee, telling her she would go to hell.

Amber Yust went to the DMV to change her driver's license, and received a letter from the employee who processed the document change last Monday, according to theSan Diego Gay and Lesbian News. The worker called Yust an "abomination" and said she made a "very evil decision."

The Transgender Law Center is investigating the incident.

5. Well, they not just broke DMV rules, but also violated at least two laws.
The ones governing misappropriation of private information, and harassment. So besides losing their job they'll probably face a stiff fine and probation.

2. Even more evidence as to why fundies get such a bad rap around here.

Edit - just to clarify I'm not defending their actions in any way shape or form.

4. Ummm, no... Fundies don't get a "bad" rap around here. They get an ACCURATE rap. n/t
"Bad" rap implies a negative reputation that is in some degree undeserved.

While I have Evangelical friends and deeply observant fundamentalist people whom I respect, "fundies" in the sense represented by this waste of skin deserve every bit of their negative reputation and more.

opinionatedly,
Bright

7. I'm not denying that either.

I work with some people who are very fundie and very anti-gay, and it really makes me wonder if bigotry is an inherited trait or a learned trait. I'm leaning more toward the latter than the former, and whenever people wonder why I don't like organized religion, I always point them to shit like this.

6. Actually it's grounds for prosecution, as it violates at least two laws I can think of. nt

8. Probably more than that.
If that happened to me, you can bet there'd be lawsuits faster than you can blink.

9. Probably, depending on the jurisdiction.
There may be additional relevant state and local laws. However, in pretty much every jurisdiction around the country, misuse of private information (using the DMV access to contact the victim) and harassment (sending the hostile letter) are illegal. So those are the ones that are guaranteed.
