1. Why in the world is the word "transgender"

even a part of this story? A woman, Stacy Blahnik Lee, was murdered.

3. Because transgender people are constantly murdered. I'd rather it not be left out of the story.

I understand the sentiment, but we need to be able to count our dead.

2. I'm sorry to hear about anyone's death but maybe her murder

had nothing to do with being transgendered......but more the act of some nut on the loose.

Also, I have NO CLUE why that newspaper would put her name quote marks. What the hell are they teaching these people in journalism these days?

4. News outlets often gender trans victims inappropriately and put their names in quotes.

It's a way of saying, we know the "real" you. You are really a man (or woman, in the case of transmen) and your name is really Howard, not Monica (or, in the case of transmen, Tiffany, not James).

If no photo is attached it is very difficult to figure out what's going on because news outlets often refer to transwomen as "a transgender man." It's both ignorance and social violence.
