Student Booted From School for Being HIV-Positive

Administrators at a boarding school in Pennsylvania say they correct in ejecting an HIV-positive 13-year-old student because they feared he presented a risk to the student body at large.

The unidentified boy, with legal help from the AIDS Law Project of Pennsylvania, is suing the school. His argument is that administrators broke anti-discrimination laws, according to NewsWorks.org. A representative from the school said it would be too difficult to monitor the student's blood-to-blood or sexual contact.

"Children cannot be assumed to always act in the best and most responsible way as they grow up," school spokeswoman Connie McNamara said to News Works. "We just have to provide the proper protection for the health and safety of the students already on campus, and we believe we have made the right decision under the law."

The Milton Hershey School is a free residential school for low-income students.
