I wrote Ford, and their related auto entities, and got this reply -
A few days ago I emailed all the links from Americablog re: the Ford Motor Co. family capitulating to bigots. I got one undelivered email, and no rely from the others, until this today from Volvo:

-----------
Statement regarding Volvo Cars of North America Marketing Strategy

Volvo is a brand whose cornerstones are care, conscience and character. We have embraced diversity as one of our key business priorities and we will continue to do so in the future. We will continue to market to GLBT customers in 2006, as we will do with many key customer groups, because we believe it is an effective way of marketing our vehicles.
-----------

Thought I'd pass it along....

1. Heard that on NPR
That Volvo would continue to market to the GLBT community.

Tell me, what's with Ford having same-sex benefits? Also heard that on NPR. If that's the case, Ford sure seems to be at odds with itself.

2. That's part of the agreement with AFA
Ford keeps its LGBT benefits, but will discontinue advertising in gay publications and drops funding for LBGT causes.

3. Forget Volvo
Edited on Fri Dec-09-05 12:50 PM by Ally McLesbian
They are boxy, they are slow, they are... well, conservative.

Neocons LOVE Volvos around here.

If you want a Swedish car, get a SAAB instead.

4. Bullshit, they will market in gay mags, but will be running their standard
ads, no more that are actually geared to gays & lesbians (two guys in the car)

They're trying to spin their way out of it, but John Aravosis (http://americablog.blogspot.com/) has been doing a great job keeping the pressure on and picking apart the lies they are telling so they don't look like they've really caved in to the KKKristian hate groups.

5. Absolutely True...Here is the direct link to the story
As part of the latest agreement hammered out Nov. 29, sources confirm Volvo Cars will continue to advertise in the publications but will use generic ads not tailored to the gay community.
