Utah Moves To Ban Gay Clubs In Schools

Backed by the conservative Utah Eagle Forum, state Sen. Chris Buttars plans legislation to ban high school gay-straight clubs.

"In my mind, if you are in the chess club, what do you talk about? Chess,'' Buttars said. "If you are in the dance club, what do you talk about? Dance. If you are in a gay club, what do you talk about?

"I just don't believe members of sexual-orientation clubs should be sanctioned by the public schools–what they are talking about even a part of the public schools. They should not be allowed to have that on school property at all. It's just wrong,'' he said.

<snip>

"We're looking at the law saying, what do we need to do to help the districts? Most of the districts don't want the clubs,'' she said. "Provo certainly wouldn't have a club if it didn't have this fear (of lawsuits) hanging over its head ... (or) if it were up to parents.''

and he needs to remember that he has the Repukes to thank for the law allowing the student groups to file those lawsuits

1. The Act only backed up what the U.S. Supreme Court had ..
already mandated.

This new law this guy is proposing will never pass constitutional muster, in my humble opinion.

2. Absurd
Knucklehead has his mind in the gutter. What they are probably going to talk about is what it's like to be a gay kid and the stress of having to put up with people like State Sen. Buttars.

These clubs are quite common where I'm from. Nobody's the worse for it.

Somebody should tell the State Senator that the gay kids' parents are taxpayers and voters too, and the gay kids will in a few years be moving into those categories as well.

5. Like I said before
and will continue to say until I am blue in the face and/or dead: Being gay does not mean you are obsessed with sex, have sex, or talk about sex any more than a straight person. It's just ignorant to think that in the gay-straight club, all that goes on is discussing sex!
I guess they should ban all discussion of dating between students, if they're going to pass this law. I guess the people behind this law are unaware that EVERYONE has a sexual orientation, and you can't BAN that. It's part of who a person is.

ASSHOLES.

7. This is the same freak
who was trying to pass a law making it mandatory to teach "devine design" in Utah schools.

8. I'd like to see the look on the state senator's face...
when a federal judge orders it. That is unless that school district wishes to keep its federal funding.
