Swedish Gov't Helpless To Stop Anti-Gay Web Site
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon06/02/020106sweden.htm

Despite having one of the world's toughest laws against the promotion of hate Sweden's chief prosecutor says there is nothing that can be done about a Web site that list 129 well known gays, lists their professions and addresses and calls for their deaths.

Prosecutor Hakan Roswall said that as long as the death threats are in the form of Biblical quotes there is nothing he can do as the result of a Supreme Court ruling last November that dismissed charges against pastor Ake Green who called gays "a cancer on the face of society". (story)

Roswall said the ruling effectively tied his hands.

Under the title "The Sodomites", the Web site contains personal information about the 129 individuals that includes prominent actors, musicians, broadcasters, politicians and priests

1. Why do I get the feeling that Phelps has his hands in this somewhere?
Just an odd feeling I get.

2. I'm surprised they can't do something about the listing of addresses
I hope that no one decides to act upon the hatred spewed out by this website, which is definitely not acting in a Christian manner imho.

3. Religionist filth, as usual.
The bible as a roadmap for cruelty, violence and hateful lies.

Yay, religion! What a wonderful force in society it is! :puke:

... whether its owners have concealed their own identities.

But no... I'm sure that -- like all tough-talking hate-spewing bible-thumping freaks -- they're more than willing to play by the same sules they've set down for everyone else. :eyes:

8. It's cool that the Swedish Royal Family is threatening to sue - that may
get something moving... i.e., the royals disagree with the law - or the application of the law. I wonder how the courts in the US would read that Bible-quoting exemption in the law... sure seems like inciting violence, and unlike the prior case, it seems like it ought to be criminal due to the specific identities. I hate the concept that we have to protect hateful speech in order to protect free speech... such a painful tension in many cases.
Maybe their source didn't want to list the site because of further disseminating the names/addresses.

10. Frankly, I've always thought it a bit strange
that our system protected those who hide the Bible in order to issue death threats, particularly when those beliefs are KNOWN to be CHOSEN. Seems to me that the christo-fascists are the ones with "special rights." Their churches don't pay taxes, they threaten and attempt to intimidate, and they are often nothing more than a front for political activism.

11. So true. They work the junction between religion and politics to the max.
It's especially disturbing that they're so often funded from our own taxes (especially under * and the current congress) without having to open their books for audit.
