The new voice of D.C.'s subway is family

America may not have a lesbian president yet, but this spring one local lesbian will order hundreds of thousands of people around each day.

1. Well that's a fun bit of cultural Americana if I ever heard one.
What a strange little story! Thanks, DW.

2. There is no cash prize, just the satisfaction of winning
...and of hearing yourself say "the doors are closing in three.....two.....one!"

They did a bit on her on the TV--she does have a good voice, one that will cut through all the train noise, but not sound obnoxious. Anyone who has ridden the metro knows how hard it is to understand what the hell the voice is saying up to now--and if you were going on a line where you didn't usually travel, you'd hear something like "next stop--mmmwwffulmmmmdwzmmmmmwufff" and be frantically looking out the dirty windows to see if you could make out the station sign...

5. she's not going to say the stops and things
only the currently pre-recorded announcements ('doors closing'; 'no eating...'; 'watch out for suspicious...')

3. I saw her on tv!
Thought she had a wonderful voice and delivery. Terrific for the lesbian community in D.C. Wonder what the RWers in D.C. have to say about that? Hope it frosts their butts.

7. I know. But they've gotta be mad
cuz a gay person now gets to have a voice every day all day! The irony is delicious!

8. I was going to say the same thing.....
What RWers, a hand full of lobbyist, but Congress has its own little private metro and they probably don't have the same messages.

4. Cool!
Here in Chicago, the voice of the CTA's trains is this boring, just absolutely dull voiceover actor.

That's a nice news item. :-)
