'Ex-gay' John Paulk's exciting new career
John Paulk was the king of the "ex-gay" ministries. He had appeared on "Good Morning America," "Oprah" and "60 Minutes," telling his bizarre tale of "change." He was also on the cover of Newsweek with his "ex-lesbian" wife Anne, under the headline "Gay for Life?" Later, he went to work for Focus on the Family, running their "ex-gay" Love Won Out anti-gay road show.

All this ended after I photographed Paulk in a homosexual saloon in Washington. Paulk and his wife moved to Portland. Ore., never to be heard from again ... until now.

It turns out Paulk has embarked upon yet another transformation. But this time, he is baking more than bullshit. America's most famous failed ex-gay is now a personal chef in Portland and a graduate of Western Culinary Institute. He has opened an oh-so-gay catering business, with an oh-so-queer name — Mezzaluna.

You go, girl!

Mezzaluna? Isn't that a brand of (ahem!) personal lubricant? Or maybe it's French for "closet."

2. WTF?. This Paulk guy says he turned straight because he got fat.
"My weight started to increase, and I found little desire to keep on a strict diet in order to stay fashionably slim. My very appearance was changing; I was looking less and less gay. And I was perfectly happy about it."

:wtf: OK gay DUers: this straight girl has a hard time believing that weight gain turns you straight. If it did then the opposite would be true: skinny people would all be gay. :eyes:

9. Damn, where the hell does that leave me...
...I'm looking to lose some weight, will that make me straight? Or wait, no, that'll make me gay. So confusing.

11. I'm confused too. I'm not fat but I could stand to loose 10-20 pounds.

Would that make me a lesbian or just a slender straight girl or would I turn bisexual? :eyes:

3. Man, that "ex-gay" thing isn't...um...sticking, is it?
Quelle surprise. :-)

BTW: YOU took his picture??

Excellent! Perfect evidence of what a sad, pathetic farce the "ex-gay" movement is. Thank you.

5. Actually, it was Wayne Besen who took the photo ...
... He wrote about it in quite a lot of detail in his book "Anything But Straight" about the bogus "ex-gay" programs.

4. I'm guessing that this guy has no connection to Johan Paulik?
The similarity of names is just too funny.

6. The only connection between the two ...
... is the sticky buttons on John's VCR that have to be cleaned up before his "wife" gets home.

My friends changed the rules--when I got to be the last player, they'd select the hardest question instead of letting me choose. It was usually sports, but weirdly enough I got it right more than a few times.

25. So basically...
...you have a lesbian and a gay guy who agreed to come together to receive the benefits of being married, plus turn it into a money-making scheme by marketing (more like whoring) themselves out as "ex-gay."

Either they were not gay to begin with, or they were (and still are) gay, and just using this tactic as a way to get some money and fame, in which case I give them a couple of years before they get exposed for the frauds that they are. Most likely the latter.

26. Boo!
This guy sets us back like 10 years by giving people false hope that their children might not stay gay. Which gives credit to all the hoax ex-Gay camps. Gets his groove on in a saloon in Washington, and makes it clean as a chef a few years later. No fair, I think he got off the hook way too easily for all the damage he caused and the young lives he potentially ruined.
