Transgender woman arrested for using loo (bathroom)
Edited on Tue Feb-28-06 06:24 PM by foreigncorrespondent

A phone repair worker who is in transition from male to female said that she was arrested three times by transit police in the last six months for using the women's restroom at Grand Central Terminal.

Helena Stone, 70, said an officer called her "a freak, a weirdo and the ugliest woman in the world" and warned her, "If I ever see you in the women's bathroom, I'm going to arrest you."

"I said, 'That's the only bathroom I use,"' Stone said at a rally and news conference.

"That's who I am."

All I gotta say about this is disgusting! What a "professional" cop that is!

I work in the security industry and we are taught right through training that no matter who the person is we are arresting we must always act in a professional way and NEVER discriminate against or disrespect a single person. It is ashame that some cops don't abide by the same.

On edit a good example of my professionalism happened just last week when my partner for the day and I had to arrest a man who was rather intoxicated. This guy was threatening to kill us and everything, yet I still treated him with the up most respect.

2. Unfortunately it is my experience too!
I deal with cops on a daily basis, and it is usually rare when I actually come across a cop who shows he/she is actually human.

8. As long as we allow harrassment and persecution
of any innocent person we set up ourselves to be next.

I'm not transgendered, and I've only ever known a few people who were, but that doesn't matter. If fair treatment is based on who is liked then nobody is safe. We're all considered freaks by some other group out there.

Nobody is truly in the majority. There is no majority to be in.

11. Is that a serious question?
Or did you just take a clueless pill with extra insensitivity enhancers?

Yeah, and a major problem is the way they treat LGBT citizens. Er.. did you note the forum you are in? The Police have added them to the list, not us. My guess is the cop calls himself a Christian

16. Are you saying that it's Okay for police to abuse TG women?
When I transitioned in Illinois back in the eighties I was told by a police officer that if someone should punch me in the face that I would be the one arrested because I didn't have to dress that way! Are you suggesting that society go back to that?! I am offended by this ignorance and intolerance.

19. Why not? Are TG folk not important enough?
Should we get to the back of the civil rights line? Should we HOLD IT for another hundred years?

Come out and say what you really mean. Don't be coy.

10. A sick one with serious issues.
One who is sure he's more powerful than an old lady so he can get away with being abusive.

17. well Helena, next time carry a pocket voice recorder.
If the problem is the cop, then you will probably need to get arrested. If the problem is the law says "no peckers in the taco room" then transitional humans have to abide, but you can still get the rat bastard of a cop for being insensitive and rude.

I believe the misplaced intent is to keep creepy old men from putting on a wig and hanging out in the lady's room to catch a glimpse of cootch, (which happens ALL the time in ladies rooms :eyes: what with women standing around putting on makeup and admiring each other's hoo haws in front of the mirror.)

What on earth do these people think happens in bathrooms? I prefer the euro model anyway - co-ed stalls for everyone. What's so hard about that?
