Virginia on the Move
http://www.waynebesen.com/columns/2005/01/virginia-on-move_17.html

In their gratuitous zeal to undermine same-sex families, Virginia lawmakers are showing about as much wisdom as Prince Harry in a costume shop. In the opening week of Virginia's general assembly, four separate constitutional bans on the freedom to marry were introduced. This continuous drive to marginalize and stigmatize gay families may gravely damage the reputation of Virginia and cause a gradual brain drain that will hurt business interests.

Virginia is not alone in its rush to attack same-sex couples. On Election Day, 11 states passed Constitutional Amendments banning marriage for same-sex families. But even in this conservative environment, Virginia stands out for not just buoying discriminatory marriage laws, but bullying its gay citizens. The state has been nothing short of aggressively anti-gay, making life increasingly intolerable for gay Virginians:

1. This is why I'm leaving.
This is why I'm leaving Virginia. I'm moving to Massachusetts. I'd even be willing to swap houses with Laurie up there. :p She wants to move here so bad... I wanna get out... as long as I can kill all the demons left behind in her basement I think it'll work out fine.

4. Used to go to Virginia (Arlington) every year to visit friends...
Now, that state will never see one cent from me again...

... and I think it got up to about 56 here in the SF East Bay today - we're definitely warmer than San Fran! :P

7. You'll be welcome here MasSodomChusetts!
You'll love it here.

Except between November and March.

Unless you like skiing.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else (8 months out of the year).

5. Kansas headed in same direction
It's a pity that the only state that suffered more in the Civil War than Virginia, Kansas (where the Civil War lasted from 1854 to 1865) is poised to do the same thing. Kansas Republicans say "protecting" marriage should be the highest priority in Kansas, when public education is about to go the hell and one county out of 105 is carrying the state economically.

Sic semper tyrannis and ad astra per aspera stand mute as the new mottoes of these former great states has become a paraphrase of Kansas most famous citizen (Fred Phelps):

Virginia (and Kansas) Hates Fags

6. What happened to my country
Don't get me wrong America has in one way or another always had some screwed up social view that has hurt hundreds and denied to rights of perfectly good human beings. From the beginning of the gay marriage issue i was reminded of the laws denying african americans to vote in the south. How is this different? How is this anything but a simple civil rights issue...either you alow gays to marry or you put on your hood and join the rest of the sister-dating, bible-thumpers whose mission in life is the keep america white. This issue is one of those issues wher it is so infuriating to argue...it should be a simple issue. We should say "yes of course you can get married furhtermore why are you asking us i don't ask you if i can get married." Anytime someone offers their inane bullshit of an argument of why gays should not be married i want to shake the hell out of them and yell wake up in their ear as loud as possible. People like that shouldn't be allowed to procreate.

9. Gay marriage is bad because God says so
How do you know God says so?

Because *I* say God says so.

And God wouldn't lie to me.

Now, put down that porkchop and stop driving on Sunday or we'll have to stone you to death. God says so.

If they get married, everyone will turn gay. Nobody will have children. Civilization will stop. </sarcasm>

13. I always like asking....
the fundies who cite the OT on this if we're also supposed to observe the other 615-odd laws too, like the ones against wearing clothing of mixed fibers, eating shellfish (Red Lobster is a portal into Hell, dontchaknow...) and so forth.

Ask them to show you the label of their nice white fundieshirt?

Rayon blend clip-on tie, perhaps?

"Haven't been down to the Sizzler after prayer meeting for the Surf-n-Turf, have you?"

Hypocrites....

I'm amazed how many "Christians" of this ilk have forgotten the words of Christ Himself:

"... Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

St Matthew 25:40
