Anti-SSM Agitator in Full Stage Makeup
All right, Bay Windows! Ethan Jacobs got the scoop on Larry Cirignano's re-invention. We posted a bit on both his publicly observed assault, and we mean that only in the misdemeanor way, and his sneaking out of town.
Is there a Roman Catholic equivalent of chutzpah? If so, Cirignano has it by the bucket. As expected, he polished a blinding gloss on his resignation from Catholic Citizenship here and the instant creation of a new, improved position with the anti-SSM crowd in D.C.
As we have come to expect, Jacobs was on the spot and dug under it. His report on the resurrected Cirignano is here. (Temporary BW note: Their servers were barfing on the wire this morning. You may have to reload this link a few times.)
Cirignano says this newly minted organization will be Catholic, pro-life, pro-family oriented. He claimed that he can't talk about it for a month or so until a formal announcement. Uh huh.

Under fire for alleged assault, Catholic Citizenship leader takes D.C. post

Larry Cirignano, the lead organizer in the Catholic Church’s signature drive to amend the state constitution to ban same-sex marriage, has left his post as executive director of Catholic Citizenship to move to Washington, D.C. to head a new Catholic organization he described as “pro-life
pro-family.” Cirignano told Bay Windows that most of the details of the new organization are still being kept under wraps, but he said there will likely be a public announcement of the new organization in about a month.
“It’s up and running and I’m not talking about it yet because we haven’t made an announcement,” Cirignano said.
Cirignano made headlines last December for allegedly shoving Sarah Loy, a same-sex marriage supporter, at a Dec. 16 Worcester rally organized by VoteOnMarriage.org, the ballot question committee that sponsored the marriage amendment. Several witnesses of the altercation, including Richard Nangle, the Worcester Telegram and Gazette reporter who first wrote about the incident in his coverage of the rally, told Bay Windows last December that they witnessed Cirignano push Loy, but Cirignano has publicly maintained his innocence, and both he and VoteOnMarriage.org spokesperson Kris Mineau have accused Loy of staging her fall. Worcester Police filed a criminal complaint with the clerk magistrate’s office to determine if there is probable cause to charge Cirignano with misdemeanor assault and battery. The altercation prompted a number of local LGBT groups, including MassEquality, the Massachusetts Gay and Lesbian Political Caucus, KnowThyNeighbor.org and the Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project, to call on Catholic Citizenship Chairman Ray Flynn, former mayor of Boston and U.S. ambassador to the Vatican, to fire Cirignano, but he took no such action.
Cirignano described his job change as a promotion, not a demotion. Asked the reason behind the move to D.C. Cirignano answered, “More money, warmer weather,” and laughed. He then added, “And certainly to go broader in scope than Massachusetts.”

As for the potential charges against him for the Worcester altercation, Cirignano said he will have a hearing before the clerk magistrate’s office in Worcester on Feb. 20 to determine if the district attorney’s office will charge him with misdemeanor assault and battery. Worcester Police are also considering filing civil rights charges against Cirignano in connection to the incident, but police have not yet decided whether they will press for civil rights charges at the magistrate’s hearing.
