New Jersey Schools Ordered To Protect Gay Students

Students who are bullied by other students because of their sexual orientation are protected by New Jersey’s antidiscrimination law, and school districts must take reasonable steps to stop such harassment, the state’s Supreme Court unanimously ruled yesterday.

“Students in the classroom are entitled to no less protection from the unlawful discrimination and harassment than their adult counterparts in the workplace,” according to the opinion, written by Chief Justice James R. Zazzali. <snip>

1. This is the next big civil rights battle.
And just like the 50's and 60's, there's going to have to be some hard fought battles before people of all sexual orientations enjoy equality.

This is a fact of which we ought to hang our heads in shame.

The witchhunt by the GOP against the gays has to stop. They rode it for all it was worth. Enough is enough. The GOP has turned it into a pure bully hate theme against gays.

3. yep
gay and gay-friendlies have to keep pointing out the insanity of their witch hunt. they are bigoted and they do not have the right to impede on other people's rights to be citizens and live and pursue happiness, I believe that covers GLBT people, even if there's on specific constitutional wording saying it, because GLBT people are citizens, so they have every right from their birth - case closed. nice post!

5. This is a great step in the right direction. Discriminatory or not,
bullying should be a felony.
