DK supporting Obama? I'm pretty much done with US politics. I have about zero hope.
After watching Sicko and reading the Shock Doctrine, my partner and I are now looking towards emigrating by 2009. Something about DK throwing his weight behind a candidate I will not support is the depression-flavored icing on the cake for me. I'm pretty sick of this process. I don't feel represented. I don't have hope for the future. I don't feel like things are going to change.

Obama represents NO HOPE to me. He is the anything-but-R candidate as far as I'm concerned. Clinton isn't much above him in my opinion. I'll vote for him because I don't want to end up in a Huckabee re-education camp.

I'm seriously looking at jumping ship. I have a hard feeling in my gut because I've talked about it a lot, but I feel like the time is really coming to pass. I have little faith in any of the Democrats anymore. I really liked DK, but I have about as much faith in Barack Obama as I do anti-cellulite creams or envelope-stuffing schemes.

I'm sick of being a second-class citizen in a second-world country that I keep hearing is the most wealthy country in the world. Struggling to stay healthy and make ends meet, I hardly feel like an equal citizen.

I was wondering what y'all other LGBTs' response to this is...

3. I like Biden, but I'm not so into his economic ideas.
I do at least find him charming and competent though.

2. like whirlygigspin -- i'm really liking biden right now --
if edwards stays in til cali -- i might vote for him.

i haven't had a candidate -- i don't like obama or hillary.

but i haven't been bummed about the quality of our candidates -- just bummed about the choices that candidates feel they have to make to stay ahead.
it's just something i don't believe.

5. It's more complicated than that.
If Obama is the Democratic nominee --

if he loses the election, Democrats lose.

Also, if he wins the election, Democrats lose.

He has promised to sell us out. He has told us, clearly, that he intends to abandon all our principles and goals in order to work together with the people who despise us.

10. He didn't
he told his supporter that if they don't have 15% of the vote at the caucus to use their second vote for Obama. I would not do it - and I support DK. Obama is not someone I want in office for many many reasons the least of which is his statement that GLBT persons deserve "a basic set of rights" like we are 3/5 human - something he should understand is just well infuriating.

12. Edwards would be my second choice, but just barely
When I attend the Washington Caucuses, I will stand for Kucinich. If he gets disqualified, I will either stand for Edwards or walk out disenfranchised. I cannot and will not stand for either Obama or Clinton.

they have a primary - totally different set up.

My second choice keeps changing - but Edwards creeps in there often :)

14. Washington has both, and the primaries are irrelevant
Washington has primaries. The state Democratic Party considers them "advisory" and has instead picked the state delegation via caucuses in 2000 and 2004. This year, the state primaries will be on Tuesday, February 19. The Democratic Party, however, will be holding caucuses on Saturday, February 9, and delegates will be picked there. From http://www.secstate.wa.gov/elections/pdf/2008PP/PP%20MFQ%20Updated%20August%202007%20Final.pdf">this document by the Washington Secretary of State, dated August 20, 2007:

Political parties retain the authority to decide if they will use the Presidential Primary to allocate delegates to the national nominating conventions. The political parties may also use caucus results, or a combination of primary results and caucus results.

...

The Democratic Party has never used the results of the primary to allocate delegates. The State Democratic Party will only use caucuses to allocate delegates in 2008.

In short, Washington primaries are a pointless waste of time and millions of taxpayer dollars (it costs close to $7 million to hold the primary.) If Washington voters want their voice heard in the selection of the presidential nominee, we participate in the caucuses.

15. Think About WHY DK Would Ask This Before Condeming
it's like a chess game. Your goal is to remove the opponent's "key" pieces to enhance your opportunity for a win. I understand DK's request completely, and for me...anything that enhances DK's chances of winning the nomination is OK with me. If you think about "strategy" it will come to you.

16. Hope This Helps
From DK: "I'm not here as an apologist for the Democratic party, I'm running (from) inside the Democratic party to challenge the party. I haven't been someone who on the campaign trail has railed about Republicans because the fact of the matter is, I see the flaws within my party and want to make it effective in the two-party system, and it hasn't been."

I agree with him totally. Dennis is the only true Democrat in the running, he'll get my vote.

20. Where did you get that?
Thank you. That is how I always thought of him. This move to Obama is strategy but it is still very puzzling to me (and disturbing). Whatever, thanks for this. He is getting my vote to and I see no other I can even think of voting for.

17. Not GLBT but...
I am so depressed over this election I can barely care anymore. I tried over the last 3 days to work myself up to caring, even defending DK over his BO decision. I am certain it is strategy, if we know there is no similarity he does as well. If I was in Iowa I would vote DK and then walk if he did not make the 15%. There is not one other candidate that will change things enough to make a difference IMO and I will no longer vote for the least distasteful and be a part of the creeping fascism.

If I had been the biggest Obama supporter in the country I would have loudly left him in the dirt after his Homophobic Gospel Trio deal. Unless someone commits to full equality, even in the language *marriage* they are not going to get my vote so it looks like I will write in DK. I see every single one of the others saying nice but not equal things and I think the moment they get in office they will at best do nothing.

This morning I see that Texas requires you to sign a loyalty oath to participate in their primary. So DK is out of that one too. I recall tons of laughter over the Republican loyalty oaths but now I hear derision over his refusal to sign.

I will hang with him even after he quits I suppose because I see equality and democracy and peace lacking in every single other candidate and those are my core issues.

Sorry to go off, bad morning. It interests me to see all the differences in opinions in this group. At least we can all agree on one thing. This country was designed to provide equality for everyone and so far it seems everyone who is not white and male and hetero has had to fight for it. Unless someone running for office supports equality with courage they are nothing to me but more of the same. I want us to move forward and we never will as long as we keep selling out to the prettiest smile on stage or vote simply in fear of the other side. Maybe Nader was right about how bad things need to be for change to occur. Not a popular statement but I am beginning to understand it more by the day.

18. Leaving is a valid and acceptable option
My partner and i have considered immigrating for some time now. Anti-gay bigots, religious cranks, hypocrites, racists and various other dickwads all need a place to live and practice their crap. Maybe America is that place. Might as well let them go at it while we get on with our lives in a more accepting and congenial country. Sad, but that's the way we feel sometimes.
