Can I hang out here for a while?
Need a token 55 year old white male straight socialist?

I think the Obamaists are out to get me. (Joking)

Seriously, I can't stand to see anymore gloating for that closet bigot. It just raises my hackles.

I'm not invested in ANYBODY with the possible exception of Kucinich and maybe Edwards, but Obama's "KUMBYA, why don't you gays just sit down and make nice with people who think you're the spawn of Satan and out to kill their children?" is starting to make me furious, and I've spent 50 years trying to curb the worst temper I've ever seen: mine.

2. Patience
Time kills all things. Right now, he's having his moment in the sun, but he's just as much a part of the establishment as Senator Clinton. We can hope that isn't what most of us want.

19. Does it matter?
As the zen thing says, "Some people see the glass half full, and others half empty. The Zen master says 'The glass is already broken.'"

Also, it's ludicrous to think that any god would devote their time to us. We are the author of our ills and our triumphs.

22. I'm a f***ing rock when the issue doesn't matter
Since I can't see Obama carrying this through, it's just a burp in the campaign cycle.

Atheists are indeed hard to spot, but I felt like I would add to you that you can be a non-atheist and still see people who think humanity is somehow "special" enough to warrant 24/7 surveillance from some all-powerful being as complete morons. The only thing in the universe that would do that is another human.

As for our country growing up, it occurred to me yesterday that we have always been an imperial nation, will always be an imperial nation. You can't do anything with that, other than bury it and start over.

Using said monumental patience waiting for that day

3. We need to
take back the word socialist! Socialists unite! We're not very popular, even among dems, though, are we?

I think they're out to get me too, judging by my ignore list.

I' sick of being told to get over it when it comes to Obama courting the anti-gay christian bigot vote. We've (LGBT people) been used as the boogieman in the last three elections. The last thing I ever want to see is a dem doing it.

But we're being too sensitive when we try to articulate why this issue really does matter to us.

8. Why, I'll bet one of Obama's first White House functions would be to hold a prayer group
so all those gay people can be "cured" of being gay. Why, you just pray about it and the good lord fixes you. :eyes:

Somebody can bring marshmallows and graham crackers, and chocolate and a good time will be had by all. (Of course, the only ones who were "had" were the American people. Again.)

The thing that makes me angriest is Barack should know better. He's a black man, and he should be more sensitive to discrimination and aware of what your actions can do to others. There's no excuse for his bigotry.

Welcome, Tyler. It's a lot friendlier in here than it is in GD forums today. ;)

32. Nice to see you.
One of my fondest and earliest memories of Norfolk was an Al Anon meeting I went to because my soon-to-be ex spouse was a recovering alcoholic. The meeting, I found out walking in the door was all gay, and I was concerned about being treated like some kind of pet.

How could I have been so wrong?

When they decided to go "Closed" AA, they made an exception for me. I do miss my friends. Good to find new ones when you can. With a few exceptions after 7 years, I was starting to have doubts about DU. Thanks for the welcome.

If any of our other Dem candidates were spouting this type of crap about the gay community they wouldn't even be polling in the single digits.

I just don't get it I guess!

Edited on Wed Jan-09-08 10:03 AM by nealmhughes
Cole Porter's "Anything Goes" starts after the intro:

"in olden days a glimpse of stocking was looked on as something shocking"

In the analogies, it was not Judy, but Elaine Page. Good try, though!

You get the Gene Debs Award for E for Effort!

I got to see Patti twice as Evita!

if you're ever in NH :)

Sadly, I don't do too well as a pre-op TS myself. But we have eyes ;)

The green mini-skirt line deals with the old anime "Sailor Moon". Haruka = Sailor Uranus (yeah yeah) who used the "World Shaking" attack.

Interestingly enough, she was a lesbian with her girlfriend Michiru, Sailor Neptune.

I don't watch much anime anymore, although I love Japanese culture on the whole, but Haruka to me always invokes those crazy long-legged heroines.

Ugh... I used to have a Mercury one for collection purposes (back when I was into it heavy). Some of them were made by the Barbie folks too, the waists were like 1" in diameter even though they were foot long dolls. They didn't even look like that on the show!

One hangover effect from all the anime - I just can't turn down a date from a girl with blue or pink hair. I still love the Pixie/Punk look :)

38. welcome Tyler
as a middle aged gay man who enjoys your posts, I have found the GD and LBN forums to be cesspools of intolerance and hate these days (OK it is early, maybe I am over-reacting). I have considered dropping off DU entirely but why the hell should I go?? I do enjoy the CIVIL interaction i get from like minded people (even if that is less frequent lately)

And FWIW, my first Gay AA meeting was the most welcoming place I have ever been. Talk about feeling like you were all alone until you passed through the door! That was 15 years ago and my closest friends these days are either gay or in recovery.

welcome :pals:

I've always felt that if the world agreed with me it would be very boring, but, as the declaration says: "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal...." doesn't sound much like it leaves any wiggle room for anyone, especially rock star politicians.
