Have to share some pics....
From Baton Rouge's Apollo Ball (Mardi Gras ball put on by a Krewe made up entirely of gay men), which was this past Saturday. My sort-of-significant other was introduced as King, and his costume turned out so amazing, and I'm very happy for him.

It was a sell-out this year (demand FAR exceeded supply), so there were about 1100 attendees this year. Not bad for a kind of backwards city, where a certain councilmember believes there are only 100 or so homosexuals among the population!

6. Hehehe...
Well, I'll be costuming next year so you might have to share the guest room with untold pounds of feathers, miles of sequins, and rhinestones out the yin-yang!

7. Holy carp...
Wow. I mean... wow. I can't imagine how much work and energy went into just those costumes, let alone the ball itself. :)

11. We started working on the King's costume in June...
and were finished in early December (so we could enjoy the holidays). Honestly, most people wait until the last minute and work in sheer panic.

Organizing the ball itself is a huge undertaking. There's a captain, a co-captain, and 5 lieutenants that do all of the work. But get a control freak captain that won't delegate and you've got a recipe for a nervous breakdown!

8. Stunning!
Those are amazing costumes! I am in awe of you all. What an elaborate show. I wanna do this! We do not have the money or interest here to do anything like that though. Sadly I say that.

Thank you for sharing these pictures. Put a big smile on my face. :)

9. Thank you kindly...
It's a fun group to be involved with. Sure, you get 65+ gay men together and there's going to be the inevitible drama but overall there's a lot of brotherhood and good will towards each other. And, we make every effort to give back to the community through helping other organizations as well as our own endeavors.

10. That is just
plain good citizenship and the best way to win hearts and minds. I salute you all. This looks to be an extremely involved process and drama aside (when is there not drama when any more than 2 people put something together?) it is amazing to see.

Perhaps there should be a GLBT-Oriented DU meetup at next year's ball?
