Kentucky Bill Would Ban Domestic Partner Benefits
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon08/01/013108ky.htm

Kentucky Gov. Gov. Steve Beshear (D) says he will veto a bill that would bar state funded agencies or colleges from offering domestic partner benefits if the measure arrives on his desk.

The bill passed the state Senate 30 - 5 on Wednesday with five Democrats voting against it. Among them was Sen. Ernesto Scorsone of Lexington, the only openly gay man in the Senate.

"The only thing that drives this measure is a gay-bashing effort," said Scorsone.

Republican Vernie McGaha who supported the legislation called it a moral issue and pointed to the state constitution which bans same-sex marriage.

"I do not recognize domestic partnerships as being a correct thing," said McGaha. "My Bible teaches against it."

maybe it's time for him to really read what his Bible says

2. How does the domestic partnership thing work?
I mean, can someone just move in with someone else overnight and claim benefits? Can they change their declared person every week, if they want to? How do they 'prove' someone really is their partner--would they just show living in the same house? (rent receipt) How would the state tell the difference between partners and roommates?... I've had a lot of roommates--of lots of different spirits.

4. My partner and I have already endured this in Virginia

Even though the company she works for, which had been based in PA, was more than happy to have provided our joint health care coverage for years, when Virginia passed its draconian laws banning anything resembling domestic partner benefits within the borders of the commonwealth, we lost the health care coverage we shared. I have MS and it is now impossible for me to find affordable health insurance.

That's the reality of it, friends. Bills such as this KILL GLBT people. And yet here we are in 2008, being asked from some corners to once again take one for the good of the party -- while some candidates like Barack Obama pander to the most vicious homophobes for votes.

While our people die.

Sorry, but right now I am just thoroughly disgusted. Disgusted that our basic human rights are once again on the auction block and disgusted that so many on DU (not y'all here) apparently don't give a rat's ass.
