Gloria Jean's Coffee
this is a continuation from another thread

this is an Australian company with deep ties to right wing churches there

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gloria_Jean's

it doesn't look like Borders Books has anything to do with them in the US but it looks like they do in Australia and New Zealand

I just emailed Borders regarding Gloria Jean.

3. With so many choices...
In the dearth of specialty-coffee shops, it will be easy to avoid GJ's going forward.

The only way to make any of these cement-heads take notice of their regessive principles is to hit them in the wallet. And if that doesn't matter to them - well, what am I saying, of course that's what matters to them !!

4. If enough people refuse to buy, they'll notice.

5. Ewww. Thanks for the tip.
Have never had it myself, but I have bought their K-cup pods for my mother. We gave her one of those single-cup coffee machines for a present, and she has trouble finding the coffee cup thingies. I order them for her from Amazon, and have on occasion bought the Gloria Jean brand. I will totally avoid in the future. Had no idea.

8. Thanks for the info!
I think there was one of these places in my hometown in upstate NY, but I haven't seen any here in the Metro DC area...

Good to know who's financing the whack jobs.

The sales staff says they go "beyond fair-trade" and stuff.

10. This is VERY odd to me, because

a now-deceased friend of mine worked at a branch in Chicago long ago, and told me (around 1990 or 91) that Gloria Jean's was gay-owned and operated (and this was why he worked there as opposed to, say, Starbucks). Can anyone confirm whether it ever was, or is now?
