Stephen English claims he was repeatedly referred to as "faggot" and "Mr Franglais" by colleagues at Thomas Sanderson Blinds after his manager discovered that he lived in Brighton and had attended boarding school.
The case is set to be referred to the Court of Appeal after the Employment Appeal Tribunal this week ruled that Mr English, as a non-gay man, was not covered by the law banning discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation.
The claim raises important questions about whether UK employment laws have correctly implemented European Union legislation designed to combat discrimination and whether they may have more wide-ranging implications, lawyers said.
