Gay marriage debate shifts back to California
SAN FRANCISCO—The national debate over gay marriage shifts to the West Coast on Tuesday when California's highest court considers whether a constitutional pledge of equality for all or a voter-approved law forbidding same-sex couples to wed takes precedence.

Four years after gay rights advocates sued to overturn the state law, the California Supreme Court is set to hear three hours of oral arguments in six separate cases being heard jointly.

I saw a brief story on this on one of the SF teevee stations this morning. It had a shot of the front of the Supreme Court building, where some shit-for-brains Philistines had set up a booth with a large banner that read, "Re-criminalize sodomy!"

:grr:

1. It's interesting how you never hear "Four years after CIVIL RIGHTS activists..."
Did they say "black rights activists" in the 60s? (I don't know; maybe they did.) I'm so tired of all the framing and the bullshit.

2. Excellent point
That hasn't occurred to me in all these years. Thanks for fine-tuning my radar.

I seem to recall a few instances of "negro rights activists" in the '60s, but "civil rights" was the dominant theme — perhaps because that was the term used in LBJ's "Great Society." Perhaps if we could convince our representatives to apply similar language, the media would follow... as they typically do.

3. God I hope the CA court rules in favor of gay marriage
This NEEDS to be a major issue for the '08 election.
