"Obama is running for president of the world."

I have no words to discuss this. Maybe later. YIKES.

2. Let me help you out!
"Whether or not he realizes it? The world is watching America. We are not hated by everyone. Some countries and some people see America as a beacon of hope. If America goes under, the world goes under."

"They are pinning their hopes on Barack Obama. At least, many citizens of Third World countries. They wish they could vote for Obama. They, like the majority of Americans, see a tragic decline in American values and principles under George W Bush. They are concerned."

"The entire continent of Africa is aware of the presidential race in America. Barack is an inspiration for many in Africa. For humanity reasons, many Muslims in the world are supportive of Barack Obama. Not because he is a Muslim but because his father was a Muslim and they see a glimmer of hope."

"Officially, Obama is running for the Democratic nomination for President of the United States. Unofficially, he is running for President of the World. America is at a crossroads. We will take the road forward to a better history for ourselves and the world or we will take the road that leads us deeper into the quagmire of destruction and decline."

Can you BELIEVE this? This guy is Jim Jones for crying out loud. He'll use the Nuclear "Footbal" like a "Wii" terminal.

4. The parallels between these posts/speeches and facist/cult leaders is tres scary
These people need to step back and really listen to what they sound like.

BTW, this made me crack up, "He'll use the Nuclear "Footbal" like a "Wii" terminal."

6. Can't you see that? I can.
He already seems delusional. What if he starts to actually BELIEVE his own press, and hears voices telling him to cleanse the world?

It certainly has happened before.

8. You know he's LYING about his "faith"
http://www.ucc.org/news/general-synod-calls-for-full-marriage-equality.htm

His "faith" won't allow him to support same sex marriage...BULL SHIT.

If he can't follow the UCC, maybe he should become a Southern Baptist.

10. Weirdly enough, that's what I liked about Obama at first
Then I realized what it was that made him so attractive, and what made his speeches so effective. I don't know if he's a good guy or a bad guy or if, like most everyone, he's somewhere between. I do see that he is using techniques of the mass political meeting very effectively, and I'm a bit embarrassed to have fallen for it again, even if only for a little while. It's hard to resist a charismatic speaker, and in bad times, it feels very good to just believe.

11. I think the human race has had enough of "Charismatic Speakers."
Edited on Thu Mar-13-08 05:55 AM by Tyler Durden

Amee Semple McPherson

Jim Jones

David Koresh

Benito Mussolini

Adolph Hitler

Ronald Reagan

I want elected officials like this guy:

Adlai Stevenson

or this guy:

Harry Truman

I think we've had enough of crazy evangelists and charismatic speech makers. I'll settle for a dedicated public servant, thank you.

12. You're welcome. I agree with you.
What was the point, again? Did I say something to piss you off?

14. OH NO! That wasn't a slam at you.
I was just saying that in my dotage I'm tired of people preaching at me from the position I hired them to fill.

Point was, I understand how charisma attracts: I just don't want anymore charismatics in office. I want ACCOUNTANTS.

13. He's from Illinois
He's somewhere in between. Illinois does not produce saints through the political system. Fortunately, most are pragmatists that have a good sense of when to cover their own asses. The ones that can't keep the trains running, the roads plowed, the bridges from collapsing, the sewers from overflowing into the streets--those people find themselves quickly removed from public office.

This is one of the most frustrating things to try to explain to people that are not used to Illinois' politics. He's not a saint come to redeem us all (neither is Hillary). He's someone that really likes political power, who, if he's of the same stripe as Paul Simon and Dick "with a B" Durbin may be willing to not harm others while they bask in their own glory.

Of my pet issues, I find Obama's education and civil rights stances the most troublesome, but chances are he won't veto those (okay, he's likely to veto civil rights expansions, especially in his first term). He's not some deep, caring, courageous individual who has somehow managed to overcome massive obstacles. He was born in privilege, schooled in privilege, and was handed and packaged so that the new state Senate Majority Leader could brag about having "made" a US Senator.

He's not a deity.

He's just a guy that's taller than most that is able to string together a coherent sentence. I know after W that makes him seem fantastic, but, not so much. Illinois does not send "Mr. Smith" to Washington.

15. When you said "...his first term..." it sent a cold chill down my spine.
After the Wright Revelations, the LAST thing I want is that person in the White House with the freedom to act without sanction of re-election.

He has been less than honest, and I don't trust him.
