Who's doing something for the Day of Silence?
Edited on Mon Apr-14-08 05:45 PM by AspieGrrl
http://www.dayofsilence.org/

I'm GSA president at my high school and I'm organizing the event this year. It's going to be fairly low-key (as it was last year), but I think it will still go really well, as it did last year.

We're having a "Breaking the Silence" event at the end of the day that's going to start off with a collective scream (scare all the other people in the building... ha ha). Then we're going to invite people to discuss their thoughts and experiences about the day, and invite people to share a piece of writing/art/music/whatever that relates to the theme. I'm reading the poem "Scared to Death" by Julia Serano - it fits perfectly. Then we're going to have some snacks. It's going to be a really fun, meaningful day, and I'm very excited about it.

Is anyone else doing anything for it?

7. air traffic controller
If things keep going the way they are in the aviation business.....you may well not have much to do.

8. It's been dead at work the past week with the cancellations...
...b ut it'll pick up shortly.

People are going to fly. For every airline that goes under, another will grab its gates.

Please notice that it's the airlines, not controllers that have been working without a contract for over 18 months, that are causing these delays.

2. The GSA I am advisor for will be having a day of silence
I am thinking of participating outside my classroom (in the hall, lounge etc). I think they are leaning toward doing the large, downtown Raleigh breaking the silence event. I am going to see Bent that evening. I look foward to seeing what happens.

4. I'm trying to think of a way to observe the day of silence on DU.
There's certainly enough anti-gay sentiment around here. Maybe a smiley with tape over its mouth?

5. I have given some thought to that as well
and I am not sure what we could do. Maybe text which only shows to those in the know or something so it would appear blank otherwise.

That's pretty cool! I didn't know about this, and now I'm definitely going to do something. Thanks for letting us know about it.

13. We already did it at school (we're on vacation the actual day of it.)
I think they tried some "Breaking the Silence" event at the end of the day, too, but no one ever goes to those sorts of things. Our school's white suburbia and unartsy.

14. What a great idea
The Day of Silence needs more publicity. I think that groups of friends could also get together for a dinner or lunch on any day of the year and be silent as a way of connecting to each other while reflecting on bullying.
