DNC chief welcomes gays to their ‘seat at the table’

A top Democratic National Committee official who’s faced criticism for her handling of gay issues is now supporting gay Democrats.

Leah Daughtry, the DNC’s chief of staff, said that she, DNC Chair Howard Dean and other Democrats are striving this year to “increase the numbers of GLBT folks” who attend the party’s summer convention in Denver.

“We made a commitment under Gov. Dean’s leadership that we wanted to do something different,” she said. “We wanted to make sure, make a way so that people from various communities, and particularly the GLBT community, would have a seat at the table, would have a voice, would have a vote when we nominate our president of the United States.”

The comments came Thursday at the National Black Justice Coalition’s convention in Baltimore, where she spoke as an invited guest.

So will out place at the table be with the "adults"? Or will we once again be seated at the "kiddie table" by the Democratic leadership?

You can't say anything disparaging about Obama without his followers jumping to the conclusion that you're a Hillary fanatic. The Obama fanatics refuse to believe that anyone who dislikes their candidate isn't pushing Clinton's agenda. And vice versa.

4. I'm worried that Daughtry thinks "increase the numbers of GLBT folks" means only one more.

At one point, she made it very clear that she didn't think we deserve the same level of representation as African Americans, even proportionally equal representation. As far as I'm concerned she's full of it.

This is as transparent as the napkins on the bottom of a McDonald's bag. Howard the Duck and his merry band of stooges is hard up for cash now that they've alienated the half of the party that doesn't worship at the altar of St. Barack (which, coincidentally, happens to be the half that donates money), and is now singing choruses of please baby come back that would make the O'Jays proud.

Expect the music to get louder as November comes closer and panic starts setting in.

At the kid's table. Far away from the people who actually run the party.

When will we get the opportunity to vote for a Democrat to vote for who actually believes in our equality with straights? Not this year, I guess.

12. A seat, but not a voice

We will be "allowed" so that we can be lectured at: "Shut up and do as we tell you, and for God's sake, stop dividing the party." But will we be allowed to speak? Would anyone else at the table be willing to hear us if we did?
