bug chasing
There is no doubt that there are unusual sub-cultures in our community. Bug chasing is something I found on wiki and in queer as folk there are a few episodes dealing with this issue. Does anybody know one of these people if they even exist and if you do will you please offer to get them help at a mental institution.

I do not want to sound harsh but if you seek out to get HIV than you need help.

2. I've come across a couple of them
I found the whole idea to be grotesque...I merely hope that they don't achieve their objective.

5. As the outreach coordinators indicate in the article,
there's talk on the internet and then there's reality, and while there are undoubtedly mentally ill people like this, it's not a number of people sufficient to be any more than an effective handful.

But even so, I'm all for reaching out and counseling such people to get help.

7. a few of every type of people exist however to assume this sort of is a large part of the gay
community is crap.

a few suicidal people or depressed people or insane people exist in every community

8. I chatted with someone on line a couple of years ago who was HIV+
He was very open about his HIV status and has had men come from as far away as England to bareback with him. I don't know how "legit" he was, but he did mention that on some web sites bug chasers and bug carriers can find each other by including the number "666" in their profiles. Since then I've seen maybe half a dozen profiles with that code in them.

Again, keep in mind that this was an online conversation with someone I don't know, so I can't vouch for the veracity of it ... though I have to admit that he made it sound plausible (and very creepy).

catching butterflies, wasps, and spiders as a hobby for centuries.":dunce:

Then I read the article. Truly sad.

11. in the height of the epidemic people did certainly chose to seroconvert.
it wiped out everyone they knew -- and they didn't want to live and live alone.

and indeed some of that still exists -- and it really does have to do with being able to value ones own life.

i don't have a particular judgement about it -- i will say that people will always fuck and they won't always fuck safely -- no matter what.
