1. Abolish corporate personhood
Edited on Thu May-29-08 09:41 AM by Cronus Protagonist
Ending that will end fascism in America, which will allow all citizens more representative government.

8. I agree. I want to see human rights upheld for all people -
that is the most direct way to ensuring that LGBTQ people have equal rights, along with everyone else.

10. That's a nice thought, but it won't happen anytime soon. Corporations own our country.

2. Repeal DOMA and DADT
If we could get those two things accomplished I'd be pretty happy.

4. I'd say both are realistic
I was reading about a ruling from a federal judge that directed the Pentagon to justify the need of DADT. My fearless prediction...DADT will be gone in a year.

5. I hope so
DOMA is costing me a lot of money and DADT is just plain wrong. You may be right about DADT going soon. The military's just about out of people to send over to Iraq...

6. how about all of the above?
not GLBT, but I would appreciate an equivalency for all americans in ALL facets of life, including Marriage and insurance and custody issues, an abolition of DADT, etc.

I'm tired of a two-tiered system of rights.

7. The upholding of the 14th Amendment
The promise of equal protection under the law for all Americans. Equal protection under all the law is now the law, it simply needs to be upheld and followed.

9. As an outsider - repeal of DADT
It seems to be the easiest change to make, but one which has significant symbolic value. It will also help other reforms when it can be seen that the military has not fallen apart because gays can serve openly.

You're absolutely right. I was narrow in my suggestions in my OP.

Thanks.

14. Should - repeal of DOMA
Will - MAYBE ENDA. I don't count on Democrat "leadership" for anything on the GLBT front.

18. Amen. Dem leaders will NEVER fight for equality; we, their CONSTITUENTS,
must push them to do so. Do not let them get comfortable.

I half-believe Obama would invite McClurkin to speak at his inauguration if he hadn't caught as much flack as he has for having had him speak in SC. WE need to push our agenda - we elected them.

16. all of the above and more
Not only should DOMA be repealed, but it and any other attempts to create inequality in rights or to reduce rights should be declared unconstitutional.

I think we also need to more clearly define the separation of church and state which leads to these BS laws as well, although not sure how that would happen. I suppose things like that could go with whomever is nominated for the SCOTUS, but we need to put an official stop to the Dominionists' attempts to create a theocracy here, imo. If their god doesn't like me, that's fine I suppose, but they have no right to impose those things on anyone else's life.

That says, "we and our gay brothers and sisters speak with one voice." :)

19. I Hate to Be a Negative Nellie, But I Seriously Doubt the Next Democratic President...
...will do anything to advance us on a national level. There is no reason to believe anything will be accomplished. The only thing we can reasonably hope for is that things won't get worse.

21. Passing an inclusive ENDA
The effort to pass a bill that left out my transgender friends was shameful and should not be repeated. We need a real, national, anti-discrimination bill. Repeal of DOMA and DADT should be next. Although universal health care is not GLBT specific, it will go a long way towards ending health disparities.
