If you are like me and loved Heath Ledger in Brokeback, don't you feel so sad
that a non-gay actor who did so much to help break cultural barriers for GLBT people and stories died before seeing the incredible success "The Dark Knight" has enjoyed? It's a bittersweet fact that projections are being made that it will be second most successful commercial film in the US, next to Titanic. I wish he were around to know that.

1. Yes, it is very sad. Especially since he was so very young. nt

2. I love Heath...
and was terribly saddened by his untimely death.

While I am not GLTB, I was hugely impacted by Brokeback...in fact, it was absolutely life changing for me.
I believe his acting in that film was totally worthy of the Oscar that year. His ability to embody a character
was astonishing.

I have not seen Dark Knight, a bit too scary sounding for my sensitive nature...but yes, I wish Heath was here
celebrate his accomplishment.

3. Yes I feel sad.
I really never cared about him one way or the other until Brokeback. I had seen him and thought he was just OK prior to that but the depth of character he brought to that role blew me away. I reluctantly went to see Dark Knight. I did not want to go because of Ledger. It had made me happy reading about the incredible job he was doing while filming it and the amazing work ethic he was showing then to have him die like that and so young just really got to me for some reason.

Both of my sons encouraged me to go see DK. I was still not interested until my oldest said that if I really had so much respect for the job he did in Brokeback I should go see this out of respect for what he had done in Brokeback and his accomplishments in his field. I know this all sounds so silly to be so conflicted about an actor that you never knew personally but somehow they do get under your skin when they do incredible things and I thought he had. So I went with my youngest when he was in town last week. It was an amazing job. He did what others often fail to do, in both of his last films (I think) Brokeback and DK, he became the character so deeply that you really were captivated by them. Well, maybe that is just me  but my oldest is coming for a visit next week and he wants to go again with me. I am still sad but not reluctant.

4. It is profoundly sad
Ledger was at the top of his career and just up and died. What we will miss from him is a true loss.

6. I always liked Heath, but never knew how much until I started paying more attention to his work
after his death. It's a classic example of "Never miss the water 'til the well runs dry..."

He was amazing in everything he did. I mourn his potential work every time I see him. If he is this good now, how good would he have been twenty years from now? The man would have been swimming in Oscars as well as every other type of award possible!

7. He was an actor who knew when to take it seriously and when to relax and have fun.

From his more silly stuff like 10 Things I Hate About You and A Knight's Tale to the more serious stuff like Brokeback or the creepy as hell persona he put across in The Dark Knight... he was damn good all around.

*edit* Just realized the irony of talking about him 'taking it seriously' when his catch phrase as The Joker was 'Why so serious?'

10. I LOVE Ten Things and I was watching Knight's Tale earlier today
I can't wait to rent Dark Knight when it comes out on DVD; hell, I'll buy it when it comes out

I couldn't help thinking how ironic the scenes between him and Maggie Gyllenhaal because of him doing Brokeback with her brother; and doing a bit more in Brokeback with her brother

8. I just got done watching the Dark Night and wow
Comic book movies have experience an immense revival as of late, making it like a second 70's of film making. This may well be the best of a great bunch. Ledger is unbelieveable in this role. The fact he won't be around to see the phenominal success he is very responsible for is tragic. If you haven't seen this film, do so.

9. celebrity deaths rarely affect me
Ledger's did though, partially because of the tragic nature, but also because I'd followed his career from his American break-through, the goofy Xena-esque show "Roar".

he seemed like a genuinely great guy and his death was a loss for everyone.

11. OMG, someone else who remembers Roar!
I loved that show! Actually it was Roar that made me fall in love with him. Even on that corny show it was clear he had a lot of potential.

Gods I miss my Heef.
