It's a shame it took puting our minority human rights up for a
public majority vote to get us more involved in our community, from coast to coast.

But it's happening, and I think we need a positive, cheerful thread for a change since we've been so crushed over H8.

I saw rage for an entire week, and I wanted blood. Okay, maybe I still do.

Our forum, for the most part, is very informative and up to date with the latest current events now.

There are great topics and we get some interesting conversations and debate going.

To be honest, I hardly ever came here because it was just a wasteland of blah.

So good job everyone, and keep it up. :bounce:

Also, please support Milk.

I want this film, including Sean, to win, to help make up for the lingering bitter feelings I know a lot of us have over Brokeback Mountain getting fucked over in Hollywood a few years ago.

DU LGBT'rs rock, and so do our straight DU friends .. especially the ones flying the rainbow flag in solidarity. It means a lot. :)

2. What are you doing here? First you attack Gavin Newsome ..
and now you're mocking "QI"?

3. Not to crap on your thread, but...
"the lingering bitter feelings I know a lot of us have over Brokeback Mountain getting fucked over in Hollywood a few years ago."

I have to roll my eyes at this, the same as I did back when that year's Oscars happened and DU got wallpapered with people complaining about the only reason BBM didn't sweep the awards was because of Hollywood's horrible anti-gay bias. It's crap. Out of curiousity would it still have been anti-gay bias if BBM had lost to Capote? Did anyone stop to ask themselves whether Crash was simply a better movie? And even if it wasn't, when has that ever stopped the Oscars? Michael Clayton was far better than No Country For Old Men, but that didn't mean squat when it came to the votes.

Accusations of bias where there isn't any demean both the accused and the accuser, and do harm to the cause of any future legitimate complaints.

5. Of course there's a horrible anti-gay bias....otherwise we
would see gay actors in these gay movies.

How many renown out gay actors and actresses can you name?

And what qualifications do you hold to proclaim, "accusations of bias where there isn't"?

I don't accept your judgment as to whether Hollywood is homophobic or not.

Brokeback went in as the favorite and was upset by Crash.

Something was up, and most gay people can read between the voting lines.

"Can't vote for the gay movie."

Interesting, that it won the BAFTA in the U.K., however. In fact it swept the joint.

How come?

As for your Capote scenario, BBM did not lose to Capote, so what's the point in debating a hypothetical?

I'll tell you what, you feel free to continue rolling your eyes.

And I'll continue being pissed off.

11. Crash was the first film in decades to win Oscar
without winning anything at all going in. Not a single, solitary award coming in for either its director or the film itself. Not a single win outside of the film at the Oscars. No actor, no director, and no script. Plus Crash was a lousy derivative film.

9. Thanks cboy4...
it takes politically active bloggers like you to keep this thing rocking and rolling until we get our rights back.

And, yes, there is anti-gay bias in Hollywood, although it has improved quite a bit over the last decade and a half.
