You gotta love the Talibangelicals' priorities
Far right wing nutcase Ted Baehr, chairman of The Christian Film and Television Commission, has a website called Movie Guide which rates movies according to a Talibangelical scale of acceptability. I like going there for laughs.

When sorted by release date, two movies occur together, Transporter 3 and Milk. Transporter 3 is a violent action movie with lots of guns and martial arts, and LOTS of people getting hurt. Milk is a biography of activist Harvey Milk, and the only violence is towards the end, when right wing nutcase Dan White assassinates San Francisco mayor George Moscone and Milk.

Guess which one is rated at "Abhorrent" and which one is rated at "Caution"?

3. For an Abhorrent movie ...
... MILK is extremely well made and brilliantly acted by Sean Penn. The emotion is strong, the story compelling and the directing is very powerful. All the elements of a well-made movie come together to make this movie very moving.

But it's Abhorrent, so I'll see the "Moral" Bolt instead.

4. And look at this:
Abhorrent

Summary:
In THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES, set in 1964, a 14-year-old white Southern girl who accidentally killed her mother 10 years ago, finds emotional, spiritual healing in the Virgin Mary and her mother’s wise, friendly black nanny. THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES is one-dimensional, includes a significant amount of strong profanities, and contains a heretical, abhorrent, paganized view of the Virgin Mary.:puke: :puke: :puke: :puke:

7. Yeah....
Goddess FORBID that someone find solace in a divine feminine, These asshats never cease to amaze me. What a lot of mean-spirited bastards.:puke:

I've always wondered why shit like "Bolt" gets a G or PG13 rating and films like "Milk" gets an R, too. Again, goddes FORBID that gay youth can see positive images of gay people. More than likely if they made a film about Dan White, these assholes would praise it.

9. Actually, a heretical, paganized view of the Virgin Mary is an improvement
over tha "chaste uterus" embodiement of the Virgin Mary.

They have taken any vestige of female power and divinity and reduced it to a freaking passive vessel.

5. the problem is that is how the real rators of movies behave
Any gay theme in a movie will get an r rating lickety split but violence often gets PG 13.

Another whacko-based movie rating system. Everything over there is evil though.

10. Somehow I wasn't expecting the the Talibangelical crowd to come out for MILK anyway
that only means more reason for everyone else to go see it, the theater won't stink.

11. anti-gay NYT ad
It seems I can't start a thread because I don't have enough posts. Someone please take this and run with it. It's enough to make your blood boil. Thanks.
_______________

BLADE BLOG
That anti-gay NY Times ad

Towleroad has an image (http://www.towleroad.com/2008/12/becket-fund-lau.html) of the anti-gay Becket Fund for Religious Liberty ad that ran in the New York Times today. The ad victimizes the Mormon Church, saying the "violence and intimidation" by gay activists in the aftermath of Proposition 8 must stop.

The ad directs readers to a website, NoMobVeto.org, where users can ad their name to the petition. The organization seeks to "defend any house of worship from violence ... for any reason."

Blogger Joe.My.God. (http://joemygod.blogspot.com/) is irate over the ad. Says Joe:

"You'll note that they decry the "violence" of the anti-Prop 8 protests, but remain as silent as always about the uncountable brutal attacks against LGBT people which are committed EVERY DAY of EVERY YEAR by people trained by THEM to hate gay people from the moment they know what the word means."

12. They can rent the entire NYT yet, people are starting to see through these lies.
Edited on Sat Dec-06-08 12:32 AM by bluedawg12
I think their rw agenda has been exposed so that people with any tendency to be open and fair are actually seeing the hatred and political activism by the churches in question.

That's not saying anything about our response or need for activism, it's simply that the truth about who was really behind PropHate8 has made their "compassionate" "family values" posture out to be a lie.

BTW Is there any evidence YET that any violence was done by gays? I have heard a lot of lies, but no arrests or headlines, or even suspects from any PD's.
