Q: How could chelation get worse?
A: By combining it with CHEMICAL CASTRATION.

Yes, you heard right. Those insane greedy frauds the Geiers (father & son) proposed - back in 2005! - that the effects of so-called "mercury toxicity" are exacerbated by the presence of testosterone. And that to be even MORE "effective," the bogus and dangerous chelation therapy used by some irresponsible quacks to supposedly "treat" autism (totally unproven) should be combined with CHEMICAL CASTRATION.

What kind of sick evil bastards are we dealing with here?

Orac has a writeup in his archives: http://scienceblogs.com/insolence/2006/02/why_not_just_castrate_them_1.php

1. Autistic boys who are sexually maturing are especially difficult
to handle. I suppose it makes a sick sort of sense for a quack doctor and for parents at their wit's end.

Somehow, I doubt any of this is the answer to anything but lining his pockets, though.

2. Geier's
research on autism and chelation should be treated with more skepticism than a paper published by the Pope that "scientifically" proves the existence of God.

3. Orac calls them the "VAERS dumpster divers"
Not far off, I'd say.

4. Why not drive an icepick through the eye socket and have done with it?
I mean, if we're already on board with unproven and torturously barbaric methods of non-treatment, why not throw another log on the fire?

5. Or waterboard them - the Bush government might even give you funding for that!
:sarcasm: - I hope...
