Government Concedes Vaccine Injury Case
Oops, this is an AP story. Guess it hits the mainstream. So much for the ruling being "sealed"----

Something for everyone in this story.

http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jPIMulfcbi1seZqbdrRmkoVP20IgD8V7I5FO0

Government health officials have conceded that childhood vaccines worsened a rare, underlying disorder that ultimately led to autism-like symptoms in a Georgia girl, and that she should be paid from a federal vaccine-injury fund.

Medical and legal experts say the narrow wording and circumstances probably make the case an exception — not a precedent for thousands of other pending claims.
........................................

Nearly 5,000 families are seeking compensation for autism or other developmental disabilities they blame on vaccines and a mercury-based preservative, thimerosal. It once was commonly used to prevent bacterial contamination but since 2001 has been used only in certain flu shots. Some cases contend that the cumulative effect of many shots given at once may have caused injuries.

.....................................

A Portuguese study suggested that 7 percent of autistic children might also have the mitochondrial disorder, versus one in 5,000 people — or 0.02 percent — in the general population, said Dr. Marvin Natowicz, a Cleveland Clinic geneticist.

"Even if they're off by a factor of seven" and only 1 percent are afflicted, "it's still a striking statistic," he said.

1. Thanks, we cross posted about the family. They'll be in Larry King tonight.
Note the official white wash? "The government "has not conceded that vaccines cause autism," said Linda Renzi, the lawyer representing federal officials, who have consistently maintained that childhood shots are safe."

"vaccines CAUSE autism" no one has made that kind of claim. The issue is far more complex, but it suits them to continue this white wash.

Are you saying that no one has made the claim that vaccines cause autism?

6. Cause in the scientific sense of the term, yes - that's what I'm saying.
The claim (IN CONTEXT) has essentially been "vaccines trigger autism symptomology in vulnerable individuals" not vaccines are the cause of autism.

I'm off to watch Larry King. I'll check in later. :D

7. I don't know, I've heard the claim plenty of times around here myself...
...that vaccines cause autism. Not that vaccines trigger symptomology in vulnerable individuals that resembles something like autism. Seems to me there's a bit of back peddaling going on after Kirby's hyperbole got smacked around.

8. Kirby's words
"In its written concession, the government said the child had a pre-existing mitochondrial disorder that was "aggravated" by her shots, and which ultimately resulted in an ASD diagnosis."

This doesn't seem like hyperbole at all, just an accurate representation.

and get back to me with any questionable quotes (in context).

I've heard "vaccines are not related to autism" HERE so many times I can't count. You should also prepare to move the goal posts, because the denial game is about to lose footing.

that no one has advanced the hypothesis that vaccines cause autism.

I'm scared. Truly. :boring:

2. THis is great news.
Let's all not forget to the very important follow-through: CEASE VACCINATING EVERYONE AGAINST EVERYTHING.

IMHO the earth is way overpopulated and we can fix that within a generation if we start now.

Start thinking for yourself please and stop letting the CDC use "FALSE" bs to quell legitmate research and question.

3. Wonderful news in support of vaccination!
Thanks for duplicating your original post on this same topic!

What we have here is MAINSTREAM REPORTING of a system, enforced by the government, that ensures parties that were even possibly directly harmed by vaccination, can be compensated. No one, on this board or in real life, has EVER said vaccines are without some risk.

So right off the bat we have proof that there simply cannot be this monstrous government-pharma conspiracy, or else this A) never would have seen the light of day, and B) wouldn't have been an option for this girl and her parents.

Now of course the real facts of this case don't say what the anti-vax loons are crowing about. The child was not diagnosed as autistic, and it was not proven that the vaccines caused her autism. If anyone is truly interested in understanding about mitochondrial disease and how it relates to this case (and autism in general), this is a good read:

Thanks, AoA! :hi:

Oh, and hasn't this already been discussed to death?
