1. That's the rule in Massachusetts, you know. You either get it, or get fined.
One way, or another, they're gonna find ya, they're gonna gitcha, gitcha, gitcha baby...!

6. Since the fine is cheaper than the damn insurance
I think Mass. is finding plenty of scofflaws at tax time.

Also, the Masscare plan screws people who were on Medicaid by forcing them to pay copays they really can't afford.

It's a typical Republican plan, preserve the insurance corporations and fuck the public.

15. It's not cheaper for the young. Or the poor.
There's an income point where the fine is cheaper, but for the family of four at the poverty level, it's not.

It's not a perfect plan, but it's a good test of ONE method of solving the health care problem.

Face facts--Americans aren't going to go for solutions like they have in Europe, where half your salary goes to fund social programs. They just aren't. We're going to have to find our way on this health care business, and maybe we need to roll out a few different models and do a little "compare and contrast" to see what works and what doesn't.

11. The rule in Massachusetts also requires...

... financial assistance to those who cannot afford insurance.

There genuinely *is* an aspect of this program that aims at providing more people with health care... rather than simply lining the pockets of private insurers.

Is it perfect? No, not by a long-shot. But it's not the Evil Conspiracy that some portray it to be.

2. Mandate that we all have to purchase someone else's health insurance
that would be the solution if it is tax based - which I'm not necessarily against - I guess it might be about a 20% tax increase based on my benefits from my employer.

5. It needs to be combined with financial assistance to those who can't afford.
I would prefer medicare for all but if they are going piecemeal it is essential that government subsidize those who cannot afford.

10. I don't think the final bill has been drafted
much less debated and passed. I don't see how the government can mandate this without some sort of government run option. I file insurance for a doctor, and there are some companies whose policies aren't worth the paper they are written on. They do everything in their power to NOT pay out on legitimate claims. There's no way in H*LL I would ever get insurance from them. Might as well throw the money away.
