What if: Pledge of Allegiance said this ...
Edited on Wed Mar-02-05 05:53 PM by indianablue
...One Nation Under ALLAH....

How fast would the right wing religious nuts call for it to be removed. I guess freedom of religion only counts if its Christian or Jewish.

I mean it is possible some day that Christianity will not be the dominant religion. These right wing cooks just do not get it. The separation is for THEIR own good and they are too stupid to see it.

EDIT: After PLedge was changed and God was inserted.

1. well, it would be different if the pledge had ALWAYS said that
I can stomach a certain amount of "historic" religiousness, but it wasn't until the red scare that under god was added to the pledge to fight those godless commies.

just like mccarthism, it needs to go.

2. The pledge was just fine (I mean, as far as pledges go)...
...back when I was a small child learning it. "One nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." That "under God" part only came in when Joe McCarthy started ranting about the Godless Communists.

8. The pseudo-christian fundies have no problem enforcing double-standards
1) They want the 10 commandments in public, but protest a greek statue in a museum.

2) They protest when children are taught to tolerate "the gay lifestyle," but are pushing for kids to be taught "the christian lifestyle" in public school.

3) They protest to have a Wiccan convention banned from a hotel.

4) They protest wiccan blessings at commencements, but want christian ones.

5. the whole notion of having children recite a pledge
is fascistic. I stopped doing it when I was in 5th grade. It is weird and creepy and I don't think any other free society has such a ritual.

7. doesn't it violate the 1st commandment?
I'm no expert, but i believe it says something about there being only one god and how it's a sin to woship any other idol

9. The first four commandments were over-turned by the very first amendment
Edited on Wed Mar-02-05 06:12 PM by IanDB1
Not a coincidence.

The only commandment not over-turned by US law is, "Thou shalt not steal."
